LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

@ Norfolk (3/25): Left wing Dwight King recorded his first career hat trick as the Manchester Monarchs posted a 4-0 shutout of the Norfolk Admirals Friday night at the Norfolk Scope. In addition to King's three goal performance, left wing David Meckler also scored for Manchester. Monarchs goaltender Jeff Zatkoff (19-14-5) collected his 19th victory of the season, stopping all 35 shots on goal for his third shutout of the season. Norfolk netminder Dustin Tokarski (20-16-4) drew his 16th loss of the year, stopping 15-of-18 shots on net. Manchester went 1-for-4 on the power play. Norfolk was 0-for-4 with the man advantage.

@ Norfolk (3/26): Left wing Chris Durno combined with defenseman Troy Milam to score goals 38 seconds apart as the Manchester Monarchs fell to the Norfolk Admirals by a 2-1 margin Saturday night at the Norfolk Scope. Right wing Bud Holloway scored his team-leading 26th goal of the season in the loss. Milam and Durno's goals were the only markers for Norfolk, both scored in the third period. Monarchs goaltender Jeff Zatkoff (19-15-5) drew his 15th loss of the season, halting 34-of-36 shots on net. Norfolk netminder Dustin Tokarski (21-16-4) collected his 21st win of the year, stopping 28-of-29 shots on goal. Manchester went 1-for-6 on the power play. Norfolk was 0-for-3 with the man advantage.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES

Despite a three game winless streak, the Portland Pirates (43-20-6-2, 94 points) maintained sole possession of first place in the Atlantic Division over the weekend with 94 points. The Manchester Monarchs (42-24-3-6, 93 points) are a single point behind the Pirates, placing second in the seven team Atlantic Division with 93 points. With both the Pirates and the Monarchs clinching playoff spots over the past week, the race for third place is between the third place Connecticut Whale (38-28-2-6, 84 points) and the fourth place Worcester Sharks (34-28-4-8, 80 points). The Providence Bruins (33-34-3-3, 72 points) are in fifth place in the division with 72 points. The Springfield Falcons (31-38-2-3, 67 points) are sixth in the division with 67 points, and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (25-36-4-7, 61 points) are in seventh place with a total of 61 points.

Manchester's power play is ranked 16th in the AHL as they have scored 66 goals on 362 opportunities for an 18.2% conversion rate. On the penalty kill, the Monarchs are seond in the league as they have given up 46 goals when they have been down a man. They have been shorthanded 324 times this season and have an 85.8% penalty kill rating.

Manchester's home power play unit ranks eighth overall out of 30 AHL teams, scoring 39 goals with the man advantage in 190 opportunities for a 20.5% conversion rate.

Manchester is tied for sixth overall in the AHL in shorthanded goals, with 10 goals coming on the penalty kill this season.

With three points this weekend (1-2=3), right wing Bud Holloway (26-29=55) leads the Monarchs in points with 55 to his credit.

Holloway leads the Monarchs squad in goals with 26 tallies.

Right wing Oscar Moller (23-27=50) ranks second on the Monarchs with 50 points.

Moller, recalled from the Ontario Reign (ECHL) by the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday, March 23, has appeared in six games over the course of this season at the NHL level, scoring a goal and three assists for four points (1-3=4) and a plus-3 rating.

At the American Hockey League level, Moller has six game-winning goals on the season, placing him fifth overall in the league in that category.

Moller has eclipsed his previous career-high of 15 goals, as he has accumulated 23 markers during the 2010-11 campaign.

Left wing Dwight King (24-25=49) recorded a hat trick Friday evening against the Admirals, bumping him to third place on the Monarchs in goal scoring with 49 points.

The hat trick, King's first as a professional, was the team's second hat trick of the season, as Holloway also recorded three goals on December 17 against Portland.

Center Justin Azevedo (17-30=47) recorded two assists over the weekend, giving him 47 points on the season and placing him fourth on the team in scoring.

Azevedo's seven game-winning goals place him in a tie for first in the league in that category.

Defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov (13-33=46) ranks fifth on the Monarchs with 46 points.

Voynov's 13 goals tie him for second place among AHL defenseman.

Voynov's 46 points also tie him for seventh place overall in the AHL among blueliners in points.

Voynov also leads the Monarchs squad with a plus-19 rating.

Right wing Brandon Kozun (21-24=45) is ranked sixth on the Monarchs in points with 45 points.

Kozun's 10 power play goals tie him for the lead among AHL rookies.

Kozun's game-winning goal against Springfield on Wednesday, March 16 marked his sixth such goal of the season, placing him in a tie for second place in the AHL among rookies in that category.

Kozun garnered Reebok/AHL Rookie of the Month honors for February, as he recorded eight goals and seven assists for 15 points (8-7=15) in 13 games for the Monarchs during the month.

Center Corey Elkins (18-24=42) is seventh on the Monarchs in points with 42.

Center Marc-Andre Cliche (14-21=35) ranks eighth on the Monarchs in points with 35.

Cliche, with 14 goals, has already eclipsed his previous career-highs of 11 goals, set in both the 2007-08 and the 2009-10 Monarchs seasons.

Center Andrei Loktionov (8-23=31) is ranked ninth on the Monarchs in scoring with 31 points.

Loktionov, recalled by the Los Angeles Kings on January 20, returned to the Monarchs line-up on Sunday, February 20. Skating in his first game at the Verizon Wireless Arena since his recent call up to the Kings, Loktionov suffered a shoulder injury on Friday, February 25 against the Sound Tigers. The second-year center had shoulder surgery in Los Angeles on Thursday, March 3 and is expected to be sidelined until training camp.

Loktionov recorded seven points (4-3=7) and two penalty minutes in 19 games with the Kings this season.

Left wing David Meckler (15-14=29) recorded a goal during Friday's 4-0 victory over the Admirals, giving him 29 points on the season and ranking him 10th on the Monarchs roster in points.

Left wing Richard Clune (8-14=22) is ranked fifth in the AHL with 218 penalty minutes.

Netminder Jeff Zatkoff has a record of 19-15-5 with a 2.61 goals-against-average and a .913 save percentage in 42 games this season.

Zatkoff recorded his third shutout of the year Friday evening against the Admirals. He now has two shutouts during the month of March.

In nine games during the month of March, Zatkoff is 5-3-1 with a 1.55 goals-against-average and a .949 save percentage.

Goaltender Martin Jones has played in 37 games with the Monarchs and has collected a record of 22-11-1 with a 2.29 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage.

MONARCHS TRANSACTIONS

3/25/11: The Manchester Monarchs (AHL) signed center Jordan Weal to an amateur tryout agreement and right wing Chaz Johnson to a professional tryout agreement.

3/22/11: The Los Angeles Kings (NHL) assigned right wing Oscar Moller to the Ontario Reign (ECHL).

3/11/11: The Manchester Monarchs (AHL) signed defenseman Jordan Hill to a professional tryout agreement.

2/28/11: The Los Angeles Kings (NHL) acquired forward Dustin Penner from the Edmonton Oilers (NHL) in exchange for defenseman Colten Teubert, a first-round draft pick in 2011 and a conditional third-round draft pick in 2012.
