LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

Vs. Lowell (1/15): Center Tim Sestito picked up two goals and an assist for the Lowell Devils which handed the Manchester Monarchs a 5-2 loss at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night. Center Tom Cavanagh and left wing Bud Holloway scored for the Monarchs. Along with Sestito's two tallies, defenseman Rob Davison, right wing Nick Palmieri and center Ben Walter found the back of the net for the Devils. Monarchs goaltender Jonathan Bernier (17-10-4) took his 10th loss of the season with 21 saves on 25 shots. Devils netminder Jeff Frazee (10-9-0) earned his 10th win of the season stopping 38-of-40 shots. Manchester went 1-for-6 on the power play. Lowell was 1-of-2 with the man advantage.

At Worcester (1/16): The Manchester Monarchs fell to the Worcester Sharks, 5-2, at the DCU Center on Saturday night. Center Corey Elkins and defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov tallied for the Monarchs. Center Logan Couture, center Steven Zalewski, right wing Dan DaSilva, left wing Brandon Mashinter and left wing John McCarthy scored for the Sharks. Monarchs goaltender Jeff Zatkoff (8-4-0) took his fourth loss of the season with 37 saves on 41 shots. Sharks netminder Alex Stalock (22-10-1) earned his 22nd win of the season stopping 27-of-29 shots. Manchester went 2-for-4 on the power play. Worcester was 2-of-6 with the man advantage.

Vs. Hartford (1/17): The Manchester Monarchs defeated the Hartford Wolf Pack, 4-1, at the Verizon Wireless Arena in an afternoon matinee on Sunday as the ZOOperstars performed for the fans during the intermission. Center Tom Cavanagh, center Corey Elkins, right wing John Zeiler and left wing Bud Holloway helped the Monarchs to their first win in three games. Left wing Jordan Owens tallied the lone goal for the Wolf Pack. Monarchs goaltender Jonathan Bernier (18-10-4) was credited with his 18th win of the season, stopping 35-of-36 shots. Wolf Pack netminder Matt Zaba (3-4-1) assumed the loss, stopping 21-of-25 shots for his fourth defeat of the season. Manchester's penalty kill held Hartford scoreless, as the Wolf Pack was 0-for-7 with the man advantage. The Monarchs went 1-for-5 with the extra skater.

NEWS & NOTES

The Manchester Monarchs (26-13-1-4) are in first place in the Atlantic Division with 57 points in 44 games this season. They are ranked third in the AHL behind the Hershey Bears (32-9-0-2) who have 66 points in 43 games and the Hamilton Bulldogs (26-11-3-4) who have 59 points in 44 games.

The Atlantic Division standings are getting tight as the Worcester Sharks (26-14-1-2, 55 points) and the Lowell Devils (25-16-3-1, 54 points) are nipping at the Monarchs heels for first place.

After going undefeated in regulation in four consecutive games (2-0-0-2), the Monarchs dropped two games, both 5-2 decisions before they beat the Hartford Wolf Pack on Sunday. Manchester is 3-2-0-2 in their last seven games.

The Monarchs are 16-5-0-2 at the Verizon Wireless Arena this season.

The Monarchs penalty kill is ranked third in the AHL. They have given up 23 goals in 183 attempts when their opponent has had the man advantage.

Their power play is ranked fourth in the league with 35 goals on 174 opportunities with the man advantage.

Manchester has been outshot by their opponent in 32-of-44 games thus far this season.

The Monarchs are 14-0-0-0 when scoring the first goal on home ice.

Manchester lost their first game on a Friday this season at the Verizon Wireless Arena on January 15 when they fell to the Lowell Devils 5-2. Their record is now 6-1-0-0 on Fridays at home.

Center Corey Elkins (13-16=29) leads Manchester with 29 points.

Center Gabe Gauthier (5-19$) leads the Monarchs with 19 assists.

Left wing Bud Holloway (12-12$) ranks second on the squad with 12 goals and center Marc-Andre Cliche (10-7=17) ranks third with 10 tallies.

Holloway and Gauthier are tied for second overall in scoring with defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov (8-16$) with 24 points.

Center Oscar Moller (9-10=19), who is currently on recall to the Los Angeles Kings, and Holloway are tied for sixth in the AHL with four game-winning goals.

Voynov leads Monarchs blueliners with 24 points. He's also recorded four points (1-3=4) in his last three games.

Voynov was named to the 2010 Time Warner Cable AHL All-Star Classic's PlanetUSA team. The game will be held in Portland, Maine at the Cumberland County Civic Center on January 18-19.

Right wing Scott Parse (3-10=13), who is currently on recall with the Kings, leads the team in the plus/minus category with a plus-11. Defenseman Drew Bagnall (2-6=8) is close behind with a plus-10.

Center Tom Cavanagh has four points (3-1=4) in his first four games as a Monarchs player this season.

Goaltender Jonathan Bernier has a record of 18-10-4 in 33 games of the season. His 18 wins are ranked fourth in the AHL.

Bernier was named the starting goaltender for Team Canada at the Time Warner Cable AHL All-Star Classic in Portland next week.

Bernier's four shutouts are also tied for second in the AHL.

Bernier is ranked fifth in the league with a 2.01 goals-against-average and is ranked first with a.939 save percentage.

Netminder Jeff Zatkoff has played in 13 games for the Monarchs this season, recording an 8-4-0 record, a 2.22 goals-against-average, a.934 save percentage and two shutouts.
