LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

Vs. Portland (12/14): Rookie goaltender Erik Ersberg recorded his first AHL shutout and first for the Manchester Monarchs this season in a decisive 4-0 victory over the Portland Pirates at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night. Right wing Teddy Purcell, left wing Matt Moulson, defenseman Troy Milam and center David Meckler scored for Manchester. Ersberg stopped all 21 shots he faced in the shutout. Pirates goaltender Gerald Coleman stopped 15-of-19 shots in the loss before being replaced by netminder Mike McKenna who stopped all four shots he faced. Manchester went 3-for-5 on the power play. Portland was 0-for-4 with the man advantage.

At Hartford (12/15): Defenseman Ivan Baranka's fourth goal of the season lifted the Hartford Wolf Pack over the Manchester Monarchs 2-1 in overtime at the Hartford Civic Center on Saturday night. Center David Meckler scored the lone Monarchs goal. Defenseman Thomas Pock tallied his third goal of the season to put the Wolf Pack on the board in regulation. Monarchs goaltender Daniel Taylor stopped 33-of-35 shots in his first overtime loss of the season. Wolf Pack netminder Al Montoya made 26 saves in the win. Manchester went 0-for-4 on the power play. Hartford was 1-for-2 with the man advantage.

Vs. Worcester (12/16): Forward T.J. Fox netted two goals and an assist as the Worcester Sharks defeated the Manchester Monarchs 5-1 at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Sunday evening. Center Trevor Lewis tallied the lone Monarchs goal. Fox (2), right wing Riley Armstrong, defenseman Tom Walsh and left wing Lukas Kaspar connected for the Sharks. Monarchs goaltender Erik Ersberg stopped 8-of-11 shots for the loss before being taken out at 2:10 in second period. Manchester netminder Daniel Taylor replaced him and obstructed 15-of-17 shots. Sharks goaltender Taylor Dakers stopped 28-of-29 shots earning his second win of the season in seven tries. Manchester went 0-for-4 on the power play. Worcester was 1-for-6 with the man advantage.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES

The Monarchs (11-12-3-1) are in fifth place in the Atlantic Division with 26 points.

The Monarchs power play remains atop the AHL with a 26.2-percentage and the penalty kill is in 29th place with 75.4-percent.

The Monarchs have the best home power play record as they have scored 24 goals on 73 opportunities at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Manchester has scored eight power play tallies on the road for 15th place in the league.

15 of the 27 Monarchs games thus far this season have been determined by one goal. The Monarchs are 7-4-3-1 in one goal games, 1-4-0-0 in two goal games, 1-3-0-0 in three goal games and 2-1-0-0 in four goal games.

Manchester is 8-1-1-0 when leading after the first period and 6-1-0-0 when leading after the second period.

When scoring first in the game, the Monarchs are 8-2-2-0.

The best days of the week for the Monarchs to play are on Saturday and Sunday. The team is 6-2-2-1 in 11 Saturday games this season and 2-2-1-0 in four Sunday games. On Wednesdays, the Monarchs have a record of 0-1-0-0. Manchester is 3-7-0-0 on Fridays thus far this season.

The Monarchs are 3-1 in shootouts this season.

Right wing Teddy Purcell (9-25=34) leads the Monarchs with 34 points in 27 games.

Purcell has scored at least one point in 20-of-27 games this season.

Purcell's 34 points are also ranked second in the AHL for overall scoring and is ranked first among rookies.

His 25 assists are tied for first in the AHL in that category and also rank first among rookies.

Purcell's 16 assists on the power play are tied for first in the AHL with teammate and defenseman Peter Harrold.

Center Gabe Gauthier (8-21=29) is ranked second on the Monarchs squad with 29 points in 24 games. He was recalled to the Los Angeles Kings on Sunday, December 2. The 5-foot-9, 193-pound native of Torrance, California, appeared in three games with the Kings this last week before being reassigned to the Monarchs on Monday, December 10.

Gauthier's 21 assists are also ranked second on the Monarchs squad.

Gauthier scored at least one point in 18-of-24 games this season.

Gauthier's 29 points are tied for ninth in the AHL.

Gauthier's 21 assists are also tied for eighth in the AHL in that category.

12 of Gauthier's 21 assists this season have come on the power play which ties him for sixth place in the AHL for power play assists.

Gauthier's six power play goals are tied for eighth place in the AHL among power play tallies.

Harrold leads Monarchs blueliners with 26 points (6-20=26) in 26 games.

16 of Harrold's 20 assists have come on the power play which ties him with Purcell for first in the AHL for power play assists.

The second year defenseman is also tied for first among defensemen with 26 points and ranks first among blueliners with 20 assists.

Defenseman Brian Boyle is ranked fourth on the Monarchs squad this season, ranked third among AHL defensemen and tied for third place among AHL rookies with 22 points (9-13=22).

Boyle is also tied for second place among AHL rookies and tied for third place among defensemen with 80 shots on goal this season.

Boyle's five power play goals are tied for second among defensemen and tied for third among rookies.

The rookie defenseman's two game-winning goals are also tied for third among rookies and tied for third among defensemen.

Boyle's nine goals are tied for the AHL lead among defensemen and are tied for fourth place with the rookies.

Center Trevor Lewis recorded his first professional hat trick on Saturday, December 8 against the Chicago Wolves. The rookie has 12 points (6-6=12) in 27 games this season.

Lewis' three-goal game against Chicago also tied a franchise record for power play tallies in a game. Center Michael Cammalleri also scored three power play goals in the Monarchs 5-4 shootout win against Lowell on November 19, 2004.

Lewis is the latest Monarchs player to score a shorthanded goal for Manchester this season as he netted the tally against the Worcester Sharks in the 5-1 loss on Sunday, December 16. Lewis joins center David Meckler and left wing Jeff Giuliano with shorthanded goals this season.

Meckler (9-3=12) is tied with Purcell and Boyle for the team lead in goals with nine tallies.

Right wing Kevin Westgarth is tied for 19th place in the AHL in penalty minutes with 78 in 25 games. Westgarth is also ranked third among rookies in penalty minutes. He has 10 major penalties that also rank first among rookies.

Rookie goaltender Jonathan Quick (1-2-0, AHL) made his NHL debut with the Kings on Thursday, December 6 and collected his first win with 15 saves in the Kings 8-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres. In three games with the Kings this season, Quick is 1-2-0 with a goals-against-average of 3.86 and a .855 save percentage.

Rookie goaltender Daniel Taylor (2-1-0) made his AHL debut with the Monarchs on Friday, December 7 against the Worcester Sharks. Taylor set a new season record by stopping 37 shots in the Monarchs 4-3 shootout win against the Sharks. The 5-foot-11, 186-pound native of Plymouth, England, stopped 23-of-27 shots for his second win of the season in a 7-4 toppling of the Chicago Wolves on Saturday. Taylor is undefeated in regulation in seven games this season with the Monarchs and the ECHL's Reading Royals with a record of 5-1-0.
