Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. - Gasper Kopitar scored the game-winning-goal for the Manchester Monarchs, who captured their second victory in as many nights against the Adirondack Thunder, 2-1, at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Law Enforcement Appreciation Night.
The Monarchs (24-12-1-4) defeated the Thunder (25-10-1-2) 2-1, improving to 4-5-0-0 against Adirondack this season.
"The game wasn't quite as up and down as it was last night," Monarchs Head Coach, Rich Seeley, said. "I don't think we played our best, but we battled and competed hard at critical points in the game and got the result we were looking for. "
Adirondack netted the opening goal of the contest at 12:16 in the first period on Louick Marcotte's 8th goal of the season. Marcotte was fed a pass from the left side of the crease by Peter MacArthur and quickly tipped it in, beating Monarchs net minder, Colin Stevens.
Manchester scored the equalizer when Joey Diamond scored his 7th goal of the season at 16:32 of period two. The scoring play started in the Monarchs end when Stevens quickly got the puck up ice to Alex Roach, who then found Diamond streaking to the net and buried the puck past Thunder goaltender, Ken Appleby, to tie the score at 1-1 after two periods of play.
The Monarchs took the lead for good on a goal by Kopitar, his 6th of the season, at 10:05 of the third period. Darik Angeli made his way up the right boards into Thunder territory and put a well-placed shot on net, where Kopitar would tap home the rebound, netting the game-winning-goal.
The Monarchs are back on the ice Sunday afternoon (3 p.m.), when they host the Adirondack Thunder in the final game of a three-game series with their division rivals.
