Monarchs Sneak Past Beast, 4-3

BRAMPTON, Ontario - The Manchester Monarchs topped the Brampton Beast, 4-3, Sunday night at the CAA Centre, securing their first win of the 2018-19 season.

The Monarchs (1-0-0-1) beat the Beast (1-1-0-0) on a late third period goal by Nick Moutrey and brought home three points on the weekend.

Manchester started the scoring at 3:32 of the first period on the second goal of the season by Tony Cameranesi. Sam Kurker weaved his way into the offensive zone and sent a pass ahead to Cameranesi in the slot, where he wristed a shot over the glove of Beast goaltender, Jake Paterson, to give the Monarchs a 1-0 lead.

The Monarchs made it a two-goal game at 6:31 of the first period on the first goal of the season by Cory Ward. After a turnover behind the Brampton net, Kurker centered a pass to Ward, who sniped a shot over the shoulder of Paterson, to make the score, 2-0.

Manchester extended their lead at 6:48 of the second period on the second goal of the season by Kurker. While breaking into the zone, Ward centered a pass to Kurker as he crashed the net, where Kurker got a stick on the puck, that beat Paterson, to give the Monarchs a 3-0 lead.

The Beast answered at 7:14 of the second period on the first goal of the season by Reggie Traccitto. Jordan Henry sent a pass from the right wall into the high-slot for Traccitto, who turned and fired a shot over the shoulder of Monarchs goaltender, Charles Williams, to make it a 3-1 game.

Brampton made it a one-goal game at 16:55 of the second period on the first goal of the season by Jackson Leef. Nathan Todd took a shot from the top of the right circle, that bounced off the boards to the left side of Williams, where Leef buried a shot to make the score, 3-2.

Brampton tied the game at 15:49 of the third period on a power-play goal by Macoy Erkamps, scoring his first goal of the season. Brandon MacLean sent a pass from the right corner to Erkamps at the top of the circles, where he one-timed a shot past Williams to tie the score, 3-3.

The Monarchs scored the final goal of the game with 57.8 seconds left in the third period on the first goal of the season by Nick Moutrey. David Kolomatis found the puck on his stick in the high-slot and pushed a pass to Moutrey above the hashmarks, where he snapped a shot over the glove of Paterson, to give the Monarchs a 4-3 lead.
