LAST WEEKÂ’S HIGHLIGHTS

At Worcester (2/23): Two goals, 56 seconds apart was the edge that the Worcester IceCats needed to beat the Monarchs, 2-1, at the DCU Center on Wednesday night. Defenseman Dennis Wideman and right wing Jon DiSalvatore scored for the IceCats at 3:14 and 4:10 of the third period. Left wing Noah Clarke scored the lone goal for the Monarchs. Manchester goaltender Mathieu Garon (24 saves) took the loss. IceCats goaltender Jason Bacashihua earned the win with 19 saves. Manchester went 0-for-3 on the power play. Worcester was also 0-for-3 on the power play.

At Hartford (2/26): Four different Monarchs scored as Manchester topped the Hartford Wolf Pack, 4-1, at the Hartford Civic Center on Saturday night. Left wing Dustin Brown, right wing Tom Kostopoulos, center Matt Ryan and left wing Ryan Kinasewich found the back of the net for the Monarchs. Ryan scored his eighth goal of the season on a penalty shot at 14:22 of the second period. Right wing Jed Ortmeyer scored for the Wolf Pack. Monarchs goaltender Mathieu Garon (30 saves) earned his franchise record 24th win of the season. Manchester went 1-for-7 on the power play. Hartford was 0-for-7 on the power play.

At Providence (2/27): Center Brad Boyes scored the game-winner at 14:52 of the second period as the Providence Bruins topped the Monarchs, 2-1, at the DunkinÂ’ Donuts Center on Sunday evening. Left wing Noah Clarke scored his 19th of the season at 17:56 of the first period. Center Keith Aucoin also lit the lamp for the Bruins. Monarchs goaltender Adam Hauser took his seventh loss of the season, stopping 32 shots. Manchester went 0-for-5 on the power play. Providence was 1-for-3 on the power play.

Monarchs Transactions

2/28/05: The Monarchs loaned defenseman Troy Milam to the Reading Royals (ECHL) and released forward Darren Van Oene from his professional tryout agreement.

2/24/05: The Monarchs returned on loan right wing Dan Welch to the Reading Royals and released forwards Doug Christiansen and Leon Hayward from their professional tryout agreements.

News & Notes

With 11 sellouts and an average of 8,879 fans per game, the Monarchs are second in attendance in the 28-team AHL. The Edmonton Road Runners lead the league with an average of 8,883 fans per game.

The Monarchs have failed to score more than two goals in 24 games this season. Their record in the 24 games is 6-14-2-2.

The Monarchs have a record of 31-0-1-1 in the 33 games in which theyÂ’ve scored three or more goals this season.

The Monarchs finished the month of February with a record of 5-5-0-1 and a winning percentage of .500.

The Monarchs enter this weekÂ’s action with the second best point total (80 points) and second best winning percentage (.702) in the AHL. The league leader in both categories is the Rochester Americans, with 90 points and a winning percentage of .763.

Despite their recent scoring woes, the Monarchs still lead the AHL with a goals -per-game average of 3.39. The Monarchs have collected more goals (192), assists (339) and points (532) than any other team in the league.

The Monarchs need just one more road win to tie a single season record for road wins in a season. The Monarchs registered 17 road wins in 2003-04 and in 2002-03.

The Monarchs need just two more home wins to tie a single season record for home wins in a season. The Monarchs registered 23 home wins in 2003-04, 2002-03 and in 2001-02.

The Monarchs need just three more wins overall to match a single season record for wins in a season. The Monarchs registered 40 wins in 2003-04 and in 2002-03.

The Monarchs have lost two straight games on home ice, matching the franchise record for consecutive home losses.

Through four seasons of regular season play at the Verizon Wireless Arena (148 games) the Monarchs have a record of 90-39-19* and a winning percentage of .672. (*Third column in record includes, ties, overtime losses and shootout losses)

Left wing Noah Clarke moved into sixth place on the Monarchs all-time scoring list with a goal against the Providence Bruins on Sunday night. Now with 93 points (45-48=93) in 124 career games with the Monarchs, Clarke also is seventh all-time with 45 goals and ninth all-time with 48 assists.

Now with 19 goals on the season, Clarke is tied for fourth on the team in goals scored this season. The second-year pro set Monarchs rookie marks for goals (25) and points (51) in a season last year.

Clarke finished the month of February with five goals. He collected four goals in each of the previous three months.

Clarke leads all Monarchs forwards and ranks third overall on the team with a plus-19 rating.

Center Michael Cammalleri, who leads the league in goals (32), is second in power plays goals (15) and in points (78), and is tied for third in assists (46), enters this weekÂ’s action with a six-game scoring streak. The third-year pro has eight points (2-6=8) over his last six games.

Cammalleri needs just one more power play goal to move past former Monarchs left wing Eric Healey into first place on the Monarchs all-time power play goals scored list. Cammalleri and Healey share the career mark with 20 power play goals.

With his next assist, Cammalleri will move past center Yanick Lehoux into third place on the Monarchs all-time assist list.

Cammallleri has 80 assists in 110 career Monarchs games over three seasons (2002-05). Cammalleri already ranks third on the Monarchs all-time goals scored list (57) and all-time points list (137).

Cammalleri, just the third player in franchise history to score 30 or more goals in a season, needs just 10 goals over his last 23 games to match Healey for most goals in a season. Cammalleri has 32 goals in 57 games. Healey collected 42 goals in 75 games during the 2002-03 campaign. Healey led the league in goals scored that year.

With 10 goals, Cammalleri will also match former Monarchs right wing Pavel Rosa for most career Monarchs goals. Cammalleri has 57 goals in 110 career Monarchs games. Rosa holds the all-time mark of 67 goals, collected in 151 games over two seasons (2002- 04).

Cammalleri (46 assists) needs just three assists to match the Monarchs single season assist record. Former Monarchs center Steve Kelly (2003-04) and Rosa (2003-04) share the franchise record. Each collected 49 assists last season.

Goaltender Mathieu Garon established a new single season record for wins in a season with his 24th victory, recorded in a 4-1 win over the Hartford Wolf Pack on Saturday night. The previous record of 23 wins in a season was held by former Monarchs netminder Travis Scott. He established the previous record in 2002-03.

GaronÂ’s 24 victories are fifth best in the AHL. The league leader is goaltender Ryan Miller of the Americans. He has 33 wins this season.

Garon leads the Monarchs and is tied for second in the league with six shutouts this season.

Garon and goaltender Adam Hauser (13-7-0 record) are tied for the team lead with save-percentages of .931. The save-percentages are tied for third overall in the league.

Defenseman Rullier, the Monarchs all-time penalty minute leader (726), is on pace to break the single season record for penalty minutes in a season. Rullier, who leads all AHL defensemen with 241 PIM this season, needs just 28 more penalty minutes to match the record of 269 penalty minutes in a season, established by former Monarchs left wing Kip Brennan in 2001-02.

RullierÂ’s 48 minor penalties are third in the circuit and his 15 major penalties are tied for fourth best among defensemen.

RullierÂ’s PIM total is fifth best overall in the AHL.

Sunday nightÂ’s game against the Bruins was RullierÂ’s 250th as a Monarch. No player has appeared in more Monarchs games then Rullier, now in his fourth season in Manchester.

Rullier leads the Monarchs and all AHL defensemen with a plus-27 rating. His rating is fifth best overall in the AHL.

Defenseman Mike Weaver is second on the Monarchs with a plus-22 rating. His rating is the second best rating amo ng defensemen in the league.

Left wing Dustin Brown has scored the first goal of the game nine times this season. Healey holds the record for most first goals in a season with 10 in 2002-03. Brown is second on the Monarchs with 24 goals overall and third with 53 points (24-29=53) overall. His 10 power play goals are also second on the team.

Brown, Weaver and left wing Chris Schmidt are the only players to appear in every Monarchs game this season (57).

Only twice in the history of the franchise has a player appeared in all 80 games during the regular season. Left wing Jeff Giuliano appeared in all 80 games for the Monarchs during the 2003-04 campaign. Former Monarchs defenseman Joe Corvo skated in all 80 games for the Monarchs during the 2001-02 season.

Defenseman Denis Grebeshkov leads all Monarchs defensemen with 34 points (4-30=34). Grebeshkov is tied for third in the league with 30 assists. The second-year pro needs just seven more assists to match the team record for assists by a defenseman in a season. The record of 37 assists is shared by former defensemen Bryan Muir (2003-04) and Corvo (2001-02).

The Monarchs welcomed four players back from injury on Saturday night. Back in the lineup were left wing Ryan Flinn (out since Nov. 6 with a foot infection), right wing Tom Kostopoulos (out since Jan. 16 with an abdominal strain), right wing Brad Smyth (out since Jan. 30 with a knee sprain) and right wing George Parros (out since Feb. 18 with a lacerated finger).

Kostopoulos, fourth on the Monarchs with 50 points (19-31=50), scored his 19th goal of the season in his first game back from injury.

The goal was his team-leading sixth game winner of the season.

With 19 goals on 90 shots this season, Kostopoulos is third in the league with a shooting percentage of .211.

Mullet Night – The Final Cut: The Manchester Monarchs will pay homage to "hockey hair" one last time when they host the Worcester IceCats at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Tuesday, March 1. On hand for this sad but historic event will be former Mullet Hall of Fame winners Barry Melrose, a former coach of the Kings and current ESPN personality, and The Hanson Brothers, immortalized as members of the Charlestown Chiefs in the classic hockey movie, "Slap Shot."

New Hampshire Legends Of Hockey: Pay tribute to the newest members of the New Hampshire Legends of Hockey when the Monarchs host the Providence Bruins on Sunday, March 6 at 4:05 p.m.

The Monarchs will wear commemorative UNH jerseys for the game. The jerseys will then be auctioned off after the game with proceeds benefiting the Legends of Hockey, an organization that honors men and women who have contributed greatly to the sport of ice hockey in the state.

The New Hampshire Legends Of Hockey Class of 2005 includes: Bernard Arguin, Hampton, NH; Dick Boucher, Manchester, NH; Alphonse Corriveau (deceased), Manchester, NH; Carl Langlais, Berlin, NH; Ken McKinnon, Alton, NH; Dick Roy, Berlin, NH; and Elmo Theriault (deceased), Berlin, NH.

The newest class of inductees will be honored at a luncheon, scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at the Wayfarer Inn, and then introduced during an on-ice ceremony at the Verizon Wireless Arena prior to the Monarchs game with the Bruins.
