Manchester Monarchs News Release

MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs battled back twice but ultimately fell to the Providence Bruins, 4-3, at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday night.

Manchester (31-31-3-4) is in third place in the Atlantic Division with 69 points. Providence (43-21-0-5) is in first place in the Atlantic Division with 91 points.

"I liked the way we came out tonight," said Monarchs Head Coach Mark Morris. "Unfortunately, we were without our leading scorer and had a forward get a game misconduct and then (Anthony) Stewart went down. I was happy with the way we played throughout the game but unfortunately we need victories right now."

Center Carter Camper tallied a shorthanded, empty net goal to put the Bruins ahead for good at 19:10 of the third period. Defenseman Tommy Cross poked the puck free off the boards in the Bruins zone. Cross played the puck to defenseman Kevan Miller who spotted Camper on the left wing with a pass. Camper skated down the wing, gained the Monarchs zone and wristed a long range shot from the left point for the empty net goal.

The Bruins opened the scoring at 4:11 with a power play goal by center Christian Hanson. Center Ryan Spooner took a feed from the right wing corner in the right wing face-off circle. Spooner took a wrist shot that Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones denied but produced a rebound in front of the net. Defenseman Torey Krug swiped the puck out to Hanson on the left doorstep. Hanson corralled the pass and finished it off scoring his 12th goal of the season.

The Monarchs tied the game at 1-1 when forward Ian O'Connor scored at 6:36 of the second period. Defenseman Nick Deslauriers kept the puck in at the left point and shoveled it down to center Jordan Weal on the left wing half wall. Weal grabbed the puck off the wall and sent a pass cross-ice to O'Connor in the right wing face-off circle

Right wing Graham Mink gave the Bruins a 2-1 lead with a goal at 10:05 of the second period. Camper possessed the puck on the left wing half wall in the Monarchs zone before playing it back to defenseman Garnet Exelby at the left point. Exelby took a slap shot that Mink deflected in to the back of the net for his ninth goal of the season.

The Monarchs tied the game at 2-2 with a goal by Weal at 11:40 of the second period. Left wing Colton Yellow Horn poked the puck free from a Bruins defenseman where right wing Brandon Kozun took control of the puck at the right point. Kozun skated down the right wing and passed the puck to Weal in the slot where he wristed a shot for his 13th goal of the season.

Krug gave the Bruins a 3-2 lead with a goal at 12:34 of the second period. Center Kyle MacKinnon played the puck back to Miller at the center point. Miller passed the puck to Krug at the right point where he took a one-timer that beat Jones midway up on the stick side for his 11th goal of the season.

Left wing David Meckler scored at 19:56 of the third period to close the scoring in the game. Kozun carried the puck in to the Bruins zone. Kozun took a wrist shot that deflected up into the air where Weal poked at it before Meckler was able to bang in the loose puck for his third goal of the season.

Jones (21-25-4) took his 25th loss of the season stopping 28-of-31 shots. Bruins netminder Michael Hutchinson (10-13-3) earned his 10th victory of the season making 26 saves on 29 shots.
