Monarchs Game Day Capsule

January 29, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Manchester Monarchs News Release

HEAD-TO-HEAD - Tonight's matchup marks the final game of the three-game series with Orlando, with the Monarchs taking the first two games 3-0 and 3-1 at Amway Center. All-time, the Monarchs are 2-0-0-0 against the Solar Bears, and now sport a 15-7-0-1 record away from the Verizon Wireless Arena. Home cooking hasn't been great for the Solar Bears, playing to a 6-11-0-0 record on home ice.

WHERE WE STAND - With their win last night, the Monarchs (59 points) now sit five points ahead of the Adirondack Thunder in the East Division and are tied with the Florida Everblades for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. This is the first day the Monarchs have been in first place in the Eastern Conference all season.

WINNING IS(N'T) EASY - The Monarchs have now won five games in a row, setting a season high for consecutive wins after sweeping the Adirondack Thunder and winning the first two games with Orlando. Manchester also has a nine-game point streak dating back to Jan. 8 (7-0-1-1).

SCORING IN BUNCHES - Several Monarchs are riding point streaks. Joey Diamond is in the middle of a seven game point streak (3g, 6a), on game shy of Yann Sauve's mark for the longest point streak by a Monarch this season. Danick Paquette has scored a point in six straight games (3g, 2a), and Mark Anthoine is streaking as well, notching a goal in each of his last three games, matching former Monarch, Matt White, for the team lead in consecutive games with a goal scored.

HOCKEY EAST FLAVOR - Hockey East is annually one of, it not THE best college hockey conference in the country, and there are eight Hockey East schools represented by players skating at Amway Center this weekend. The Monarchs boast six players who played in the Hockey East, including: Derek Arnold (UMass-Lowell), Doug Carr (UMass-Lowell), Austin Block (UNH), Joe Diamond (Maine), Mark Anthoine (Maine) and Troy Power (UMass-Amherst). Orlando sports Hockey East alumni as well, including: Eric Baier (Providence), Myles Harvey (Providence), Rob Madore (Vermont), Max Nicastro (BU) and Adam Reid (Northeastern) coming from the premiere college conference.

SHOOTING RANGE - The Monarchs have averaged the most shots on goal for the majority of the season, but were outshot last night by the Solar Bears 40-32. The game marked only the 5th time the Monarchs have allowed 40+ shots in a single game, but more importantly, it marked the first time the Monarchs have won a game on the road when losing the shot battle.

THREE IS THE KEY - Manchester continues to use the three goal mark as a good indication of wins and losses, improving to 22-0-0-1 when scoring three or more goals in a game, and a perfect 14-0-0-0 when scoring at least three on the road.
