REIGNITING THE RIVALRY
The Monarchs and Beast played a hard-fought North Division Finals in last year's Kelly Cup Playoffs, and with both teams dropping their first games of the season, expect another back-and-forth showdown as the teams play two games in the span of three days.
FIRST GAME JITTERS?
Monarchs rookie forward, Michael Doherty, didn't waste any time to put his offensive skills on display. Doherty netted his first two professional goals in last night's loss, including what at the time was the go-ahead goal. Doherty played most of the night with Cory Ward and fellow rookie, Sam Kurker, and it's no surprise that line contributed four points and eight shots on goal.
MAKE IT AN ADVANTAGE
The Monarchs earned seven power-play opportunities against the Railers on Opening Night, but could not break through on the man-advantage. While it's only one game, last year's Monarchs squad converted on 21.7% of their power plays on the season.
STAND YOUR GROUND
The Monarchs proved in one game just how tight-knit a group they have already become, and showed it with punishing hits and two fights against Worcester. Tony Turgeon (6'4", 231 lbs) and Craig Wyszomirski (6'4", 225 lbs) both stood up for teammates who were run by Railers enforcer, Yannick Turcotte, by dropped the gloves, while laying massive hits on Worcester skaters all night. With the long travel day in front of the Monarchs, an early game start and bad blood from last year's playoff series, there may be fireworks in Brampton at 2 p.m.
