GLENS FALLS, N.Y. - The Manchester Monarchs clawed their way back from a three-goal deficit late in the second period, and beat the Adirondack Thunder, 7-6, on an overtime goal by Quentin Shore on Friday night at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

The Monarchs (22-10-1-2) now lead the Thunder (17-10-3-3) by seven points in the North Division, with two games between the clubs in the next three days.

The Thunder took an early lead when Conor Riley netted his 1st goal of the season at 5:52 of the first period. Riley took a pass from Mikkel Aagaard out of the left corner in the slot, where Riley fired a one-timer through the five-hole of Monarchs goaltender, Sam Brittain, to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead.

Adirondack took a 2-0 lead at 19:07 of the opening period when Stepan Falkovsky scored his 3rd goal of the season while on the power play. Falkovsky sent a one-timer from the top of the right circle through Brittain to double the Thunder lead.

Ashton Rome cut the Thunder advantage in half when he scored his 2nd goal of the season at 1:18 of the second period. After a great backchecking effort by Gasper Kopitar in his own zone led to a 2-on-1, Rome sent a wrister over the glove of Thunder goaltender, J.P. Anderson, to make the score, 2-1, Adirondack.

The Monarchs tied the game when Derek Arnold scored his 7th goal of the campaign at 4:57 of the middle frame. Arnold picked the puck out of the air off a lifted pass from Ed Wittchow at the blue line and went in on a breakaway. With nothing but Anderson in front of him, Arnold made a forehand-to-backhand move on the Thunder goaltender, and lifted a backhander over the outstretched right leg of Anderson to tie the game at 2-2.

Adirondack took the lead back when James Henry scored his 6th goal of the season at 9:03 of the second period while on the power play. Brittain made the initial save on a Patch Alber backdoor one-timer, but the rebound fell directly to Henry in the slot, where the Thunder forward sent the puck into an open-net, making the score, 3-2, Thunder.

Cullen Bradshaw made it a 4-2 Adirondack lead when he netted his 1st goal of the season just 56 seconds after Henry's tally. After a Henry tip-in jumped over Brittain and off the bar, Bradshaw collected the rebound in the right corner and sent a short-angled shot between the blocker and body of Brittain, pushing the Thunder lead back to two goals.

Brett Pollock put the Thunder up by three when he scored his 6th goal of the season at 17:49. Pollock took a drop-pass from Henry in the high slot, and sent a snap shot past the glove of Brittain to make the score, 5-2, Thunder.

The Monarchs fought back when Matt Leitner made it a two-goal game again just 16 seconds later. Wittchow sent a shot towards the Thunder net from the left half-boards that Quentin Shore tipped and the rebound off Anderson fell directly to Leitner, where the Monarchs forward cashed-in his 5th goal of the season to make the score, 5-3, Adirondack.

Daniel Doremus brought the Monarchs back to within one when he potted his 5th goal of the season at 19:33, the final tally of the seven-goal second period. Doremus took a pass from Jordan LaVallee-Smotherman on the right wing, skated the puck to the right dot and sent a wrister past the glove of Anderson, to make the score, 5-4, Thunder.

The Monarchs clawed all the way back when Tony Turgeon scored his 1st goal of the year at the seven-minute mark of the third period. Leitner found the puck in the offensive zone, whipped around the Thunder goal and sent a sneaky pass to Turgeon who was posted in the slot, where the Monarchs forward stuffed the puck home to even the score at 5-5.

Manchester took their first lead of the game at 14:05 of the third period when Kevin Morris tipped-home his 9th goal of the season while on the power play. Morris was camped in the slot and got a piece of a David Kolomatis shot from the point to beat Anderson and give the Monarchs a 6-5 lead.

The Thunder wouldn't go without a fight, as Dana Fraser tied the game with 6.5 seconds remaining in the third period. While skating 6-on-5, the Thunder won a face-off in the offensive-zone and Fraser found the puck on his stick to the left of a down-and-out Brittain and beat the Monarchs goaltender to send the game into overtime.

Quentin Shore ended the game in overtime when he scored his 11th goal of the season at 3:35 of the extra frame. Doremus stole the puck off the stick of Alex Wall on the left half-boards, skated to the left dot and sent a saucer-pass to Shore who fired a wrister past Anderson to send the Monarchs home with a 7-6 win.

The Monarchs are back in action Saturday, Jan. 14 (6 p.m.), when they host the Adirondack Thunder at SNHU Arena on Girl Scout Night! The Girl scouts will be selling cookies on the concourse throughout the game, and the Londonderry High School Marching Band will perform on the ice during the 1st intermission.
