March 18, 2017 - ECHL (ECHL) - Manchester Monarchs News Release

MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Manchester Monarchs fell to the Atlanta Gladiators, 5-1, Saturday night at the SNHU Arena, splitting their two games against their foes from the South Division.

The Monarchs (32-20-7-4) and Gladiators (24-29-6-2) split their two-game season series, and will only meet again if the two teams meet in the Eastern Conference Finals.

"We had plenty of chances tonight, but just couldn't find the back of the net," Monarchs Head Coach, Rich Seeley, said. "We just had too many breakdowns and chased the game."

The Gladiators opened the scoring at 12:42 of the first period with a power-play goal from Eric Neiley. From the right boards, Derek Nesbitt passed the puck to Gacek on the goal line who found Neiley in the low slot for a one-timer that beat Monarchs goaltender, Colin Stevens, high stick, his 25th goal of the season.

The Monarchs tied the game when Chris Leone netted his 4th goal of the season at 4:58 of the second period. Leone skated down the left boards and from the low circle, sent a short-sided wrist shot past Gladiators goaltender, Matt Ginn, to even the score at 1-1.

The Gladiators answered back when A.J. White scored his 3rd goal of the season at 6:22 of the second period to make it a 2-1 game. From inside the right-wing circle, Trevor Mingoia fired a shot at Stevens who made the initial save, but the rebound came out to White in the low slot where he sent a one-timer past Stevens who was prone on the ice.

The Gladiators took a two-goal lead with a goal from Nesbitt at 11:46 of the second period to make it, 3-1, Atlanta. Gacek wrapped the puck around the back of the net to Tyler Murovich in front, where he backhanded the puck to Nesbitt for a quick shot on new Monarchs goaltender, Jack Flinn, for his 25th goal of the season.

The Gladiators extended their lead to 4-1 at 1:49 of the third period on Gacek's 25th goal of the season. After a second attempt by Nesbitt to score on his own rebound, a crashing Gacek picked-up the loose puck at the top of the crease and sent a quick shot past Flinn.

The Gladiators solidified their win with a goal from Mingoia at 16:27 of the third period. From the left-wing circle, Josh Atkinson threw the puck in front to Mingoia crashing the net for a one-timer past Flinn.

The Monarchs are back on the ice Wednesday, Mar. 22 (7 p.m.), when they travel to Santander Arena to face the Reading Royals in an important North Division battle. Tickets for the remainder of the season are available, HERE .
