Mohegan Wolves News Release
MoheganÂ’s offense broke out early and often and the teamÂ’s defense held strong in the late moments as the Wolves throttled the Richmond Speed, 56-43, Friday night at Mohegan Sun Arena. With the win, Mohegan improved to 4-2 overall while the Speed dropped to 3-3. The WolvesÂ’ four wins also sets a new franchise record for most victories in a single season.
The Wolves were led by rookie QB Greg Smith, who completed 12-of-17 passes for 236 yards and six touchdowns in his first career start to earn Game MVP honors. SmithÂ’s six touchdown passes tied the team record for most touchdown passes in one game, set last season by Cable Davis. Mohegan received a number of other strong individual efforts from the likes of OS Cy Butler and OL/DL Charlie Cook. Butler earned Ironman of the Game honors for leading the team with four catches for 66 yards and two touchdowns. Butler also recorded a game-high 139 yards in returns, including a 54-yarder. Cook earned ADT Defensive Player of the Game accolades for roughing up Richmond for a career-high three sacks.
The Speed had some impressive showings all around as well. QB Roy Johnson threw for a game and team season-high 366 yards and five touchdowns. OS Damon Thompson also shined with game-highs in receptions (17) and receiving yards (197).
