Mobile Uses Late Comeback to Beat Pensacola 5-3

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Mobile BayBears inched closer to the playoffs with a 5-2 win over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos on Thursday night at Blue Wahoos Stadium. With just 11 games left in the 2016 regular season, the BayBears are only three games back of first place.

Mobile (30-28, 62-66) used a three run in the top of the eighth inning to top Pensacola and even the series at 2-2. Dawel Lugo tripled to drive in both Travis Denker and Rudy Flores to break the 2-2 tie and Lugo scored when Gabriel Guerrero hit a sacrifice fly to left field. The three-run burst gave Mobile a 5-3 lead.

Pensacola (30-29, 68-59) had led since the fourth inning when Blue Wahoos right fielder Sebastian Elizalde smashed a three-run homer over the wall to give the Blue Wahoos a 3-1 lead.

RHP Matt Stites (15) recorded the final three outs in the ninth inning to earn his 15th save of the season. The win was credited to LHP Gabe Spire (1-0.) who pitched a scoreless inning of work in the seventh frame.

Mobile takes the field against Pensacola again on Friday with first pitch at Blue Wahoos Stadium set for 6:30 p.m.

The BayBears return to Hank Aaron Stadium one final time in the 2016 regular season. Mobile plays host to the Montgomery Biscuits at "The Hank" from August 27 - August 31. Fans can purchase tickets to the final homestand at Hank Aaron Stadium or any of the BayBears remaining 6 home games.
