MLS Announces 2013 AT&T Rookie of the Year, Xbox Individual and Team Fair Play Awards

NEW YORK (Monday, Nov. 25, 2013) - Major League Soccer today announced the 2013 AT&T Rookie of the Year, as well as the Xbox Individual and Team Fair Play awards.

2013 AT&T Rookie of the Year: Dillon Powers - Colorado Rapids

A skillful, dynamic player out of the University of Notre Dame, Dillon Powers established himself as one of the most consistent central midfielders in MLS. In his rookie season, Powers displayed his physical talents and reliability while starting 29 matches and logging 2,457 minutes for the Rapids. The 22-year-old contributed five goals and six assists, second on the Rapids in both categories.

All first-year players in MLS without previous professional experience were eligible for the AT&T Rookie of the Year award, voted by media, MLS players and MLS club management based on regular season performance. The other two finalists were Colorado Rapids forward Deshorn Brown and Seattle Sounders FC defender DeAndre Yedlin. Below is a breakdown of the voting for the top four candidates:

2013 Xbox Individual Fair Play Award: Darlington Nagbe - Portland Timbers

In his 3rd season with the Portland Timbers, Nagbe started all 34 games for the club this year, tallying nine goals and four assists. In 2,848 minutes played during the regular season, Nagbe committed just eight fouls and received one yellow card and no red cards. The other two finalists were Chicago Fire defender Jalil Anibaba and Real Salt Lake defender Nat Borchers.

This award is selected by MLS based on objective criteria such as fouls committed, cards received, games & minutes played, as well as subjective evaluation of sportsmanlike behavior.

2013 Xbox Team Fair Play Award: LA Galaxy

The LA Galaxy committed the third-lowest number of fouls (386) in the league in 2013. The team's 36 cautions were the league's lowest total, while the team's one red card is tied for the second-lowest total in MLS. This is the Galaxy's first time winning this award.

The award is selected by MLS based on objective criteria such as fewest fouls committed and cards received, and subjective evaluation of sportsmanlike behavior.
