MKE WAVE DEFEAT AMBUSH IN FINAL REGULAR SEASON MEETING; BECOME MASL CENTRAL DIVISION CHAMPIONS

January 29, 2018 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Milwaukee Wave News Release

Coming off of a 6-0 shutout, your Six- Time Champion Milwaukee Wave beat the St. Louis Ambush for the fourth time this season and 18th consecutive game overall Sunday afternoon at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.

Final score Milwaukee Wave 7, St. Louis Ambush 5.

"We saw a St. Louis team that really wanted it bad, probably more than we did," said Head Coach Giuliano Oliviero. "You can warn the guys and prepare them, but there aren't any easy games in this league. We really had to roll up our sleeves in the last seven and a half minutes to get our "A" game back. We had some adversity and played fantastic through it."

For the first time in Wave history the Milwaukee Wave clinched the Major Arena Soccer League Central Division title as they recently just secured their playoff position last week.

"It all started early with the guys working hard in the preseason, not just physically, but mentally as well to become a better team," commented Oliviero. "I'm really proud of them. They've been amazing, even though we had a little slump in the season. We're pulling ourselves out of it with winning two in a row and now we need to keep that momentum going."

Milwaukee Wave forward number 18, Isaac Pereya, made his second game debut of the season making his first assist.

"The coaches gave me this opportunity and every game I get to play I'm going to try my best," said Pereya. "I'm going to play with my heart, because this club welcomed me and opened a lot of doors for me to be successful. Hopefully, I'll have a chance to be on the field during playoffs."

Three Wave players hit major regular season milestones against the Ambush. Milwaukee Wave midfielder, number 26, Ian Bennett scored his 43rd goal, defender, number 16, Drew Ruggles scored his tenth, and midfielder, number 28, Angel "Chino" Curiel scored his fifth.

""It's awesome considering I've never scored 10 goals before in my indoor career," said Ruggles. "It's one of those things where you try not to focus on the stats and you try to get better each game. It's about positioning and playoffs right now. We want that home field advantage, so a win is good and being able to help the team out with a goal is even better."

With time to rest and recover, the Wave will take-on the Baltimore Blast Saturday, February 10th at 1:05 p.m. at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.

"Baltimore is one of the more experienced teams in the league and we lost to them last year in the playoffs, so we're looking to take it back from them," commented Ruggles. "That is something we need to prepare for and we just have to worry about our game plan." #2 - Tenzin Rampa (ROMP-AH) Defender | Dec 17, 1985 | 5' 8" | 175 lbs | Dharamsala, India #3 - Chad Vandegriffe (VAN - da - GRIFF) | Defender | Nov 29 6'1" | 182 lbs | St. Louis, Missouri #6 - Guilherme Veiga (GEE-AIR-MAY) VEE-AYE-GA) D | Apr 21, 1984 | 6' 0" | 185 lbs | Porto Alegre, Brazil #7 - Hans Denissen (HONS) (DEN-AH-SIN) Forward | Mar 9, 1984 | 5' 11" | 171 lbs | Tilburg, Netherlands #9 - Robert Renaud (RA-KNOW) Forward | Aug 14, 1993 | 5' 8" 185 lbs | Laval, Québec, Canada #10 - Ricardinho (REE-CAR-DEAN-YO) Midfielder | Jan 6, 1989 | 5' 7" | 122 lbs | São Paulo, Brazil #12 - Stuart Grable (GRAY-BULL) Defender | Sep 26, 1989 | 5' 9" | 165 lbs | Neenah, Wisconsin #14 -Daniel Mattos (MAH-TOS) Forward | Mar 20, 1986 | 5' 11" | 175 lbs | NiterÃ"i-Rio de Janeiro, Brazil #16 - Drew Ruggles (RUG-ELS) Defender | Jul 28, 1992 | 6' 0" | 164 lbs | Fayetteville, North Carolina #23 Daniel Chamale (CHA-MA-LAY) Forward | Mar 16, 1993 | 5' 11" | 172 lbs | Toronto, Canada #24 - Max Ferdinand (FUR-DA-NAND) Forward | Nov 4, 1986 | 5' 11" | 170 lbs | Brooklyn, New York #25 - Andrew Weidebach (WEE-DA-BOCK) Midfielder | Oct 14, 1990 | 6'1" | 175 lbs | Mequon, WI #26 - Ian Bennett (E-UN) (BEN-IT) Midfeidler | Aug 27, 1983 | 5' 8" | 162 lbs | Hamilton, Ontario #28 - Angel Curiel (CURE-E-AL) Midfielder | Jan 22, 1989 | 5' 10" | 145 lbs | Tulancingo, Mexico #30 - Josh Lemos (LEE-MOS) Goakkeeper | May 4, 1989 | 6' 0" | 200 lbs | Toronto, Canada #75 - Jonatan Santos (SAHN-TOS) | Defender Aug 28, 1984 | 5' 11" | 180 lbs | Aracaju, Brazil #77 - Marcio Leite (MAR-SEE-OH) (LEE-AYE-TAY) Midfielder | Aug 5, 1984 | 6' 0 | 166 lbs | Sergipe, Brazil #82 - Rafael Dias (RAF-EYE-EL) (DEE-AZ) Goalkeeper | Dec 3, 1982 | 6' 0" | 240 lbs | Recife, Brazil #99 - Andre Hayne (AN-DRE) (HAY-N) Forward | Nov 30, 1990 | 6' 3" | 212 lbs | VitÃ"ria, Brazil
