San Antonio Missions News Release

A go-ahead, solo homer in the bottom of the eighth by A.J. Kirby-Jones lifted the Missions to a 2-1 win over the RoughRiders Thursday night at Wolff Stadium.

The Missions did not waste much time getting on the board in the first, taking a 1-0 lead after two batters. Reymond Fuentes led off the frame with a double to right and then came home to score when Rico Noel followed with a single up the middle.

Frisco drew even two innings later with a line-drive, RBI double to left by Ryan Strausborger.

That was all the offense for a while, with both starters on top of their games. Missions' right-hander Wilfredo Boscan, who had not made it through five innings in any of his previous three starts this season, stepped up and delivered five and two-thirds innings of one-run, four-hit ball.

Matching Boscan's effort was Frisco starter Carlos Pimentel, who fanned eight, while allowing just four hits and no walks in his six innings of work.

Frisco (11-9) had a golden opportunity to take the lead in the top of the eighth when they loaded the bases with just one out against reliever Chris Rearick. Manager Rich Dauer opted to bring in righty Jeremy McBryde, who got out of the jam by inducing a pop out and an inning-ending ground out.

Energized by the escape effort by McBryde (1-1), Kirby-Jones led off the bottom of the eighth by launching the second pitch from Wilmer Font (0-1) over the wall in left-center for his first Double-A homer.

Matt Stites worked around two hits in the ninth to lock down his first Double-A save.

San Antonio (10-10) finished their eight-game homestand with a 4-4 record. Tonight was the first time this season the Missions have won a one-run game, having lost their previous four.

The Missions begin an eight-game road trip tomorrow night in Midland, with first pitch slated for 7:00 PM. Right-hander Donn Roach (2-2, 1.83) will take the ball for San Antonio, while Midland counters with RH Zach Neal (1-0, 1.33), who defeated Roach and the Missions at Wolff Stadium on April 21.

Baseball returns to Wolff Stadium on Saturday, May 4 as the Missions host the Corpus Christi Hooks. First pitch will be 7:05 PM with a post-game fireworks show to follow.
