San Antonio Missions News Release
San Antonio matched its season-high run total in a convincing 8-4 win over Midland Friday night before a Wolff Stadium crowd of 5,389.
After a big win in Thursday's opener, the RockHounds took a quick lead Friday in the top of the first when Missions starter Brandon Morrow plunked catcher Carson Blair with the bases loaded.
In the bottom of the second, the San Antonio offense went to work against Midland right-hander Joel Seddon, plating three runs on Alberth Martinez's two-RBI double and a Jose Rondon single to center.
The RockHounds responded in the top of the third when Jaycob Brugman led off the frame with a dinger to right.
San Antonio once again put up a three-spot in the third against Seddon (0-2), ironically in similar fashion, as a double by Mike Olt drove in the first two runs and a Taylor Lindsey single capped the rally.
In the top of the fifth, Midland cut their deficit in half when Viosergy Rosa took Morrow deep to right for a two-run homer, his first of the season.
San Antonio would put the game away, and cap scoring, in the bottom of the frame against Corey Walter courtesy of a Lindsey single and a Martinez sacrifice fly.
The Missions set a season high with 12 hits in the win. Torres finished with a game-high, tying three hits, his second three-hit game at the Double-A level. Nelson Ward, Lindsey and Martinez also recorded multi-hit games for San Antonio, who evened its home record at 4-4.
Morrow (1-0) picked up the win in his 2016 Missions debut. Kyle Lloyd followed the former big leaguer with three impressive shutout innings before Adam Cimber closed out the victory with a perfect ninth.
San Antonio (6-8) continues its four-game series with Midland (8-6) Saturday at 7:05 PM. Fabio Castillo (1-2, 3.86) will take the hill for the Missions, while the 'Hounds counter with fellow righty Dylan Covey (0-0, 4.15). Following the game there will be a special Fiesta-themed fireworks show courtesy of Shell Rotella.
