MISL Holds Dispersal Draft to Allocate Players

January 5, 2005 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2) News Release

Westport, Conn. (Wednesday, January 5, 2005) - The Chicago Storm of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) boosted their offense today as they selected rookie forward Mark Ughy with the first overall pick in the special dispersal draft held today to allocate players on the rosters of the former San Diego Sockers and the MISL Monterrey teams. With the second overall selection, the Cleveland Force anchored their defense by choosing two-time defending MISL Defender of the Year Genoni Martinez, formerly of the MISL Monterrey. The St. Louis Steamers selected midfielder Mariano Bollella from San Diego with their third pick, while the Kansas City Comets followed by bolstering their midfield with the addition of veteran Armando Valdivia from Monterrey. The Philadelphia KiXX selected forward Dan Antoniuk from San Diego's roster, while the two-defending MISL Champion Baltimore Blast seeks strength and experience in the back with Nevio Pizzolitto from San Diego. The Milwaukee Wave completed the opening round of selections by choosing rising Brazilian star Richardinho.

MISL Teams, via a telephone conference, selected players according to their combined winning percentage from the 2003-04 season and the first part of the 2004-05 season, including games played through January 2, 2005. Selection order was based on the lowest winning percentage selecting first and the best winning percentage selecting last. The draft continued for 12 Rounds, until all MISL Teams had passed on their selections in the 13th Round.

The Major Indoor Soccer League is a single-entity organization featuring a coast-to-coast presence with seven teams located across the United States. On February 27, the League announced an expansion team in Stockton, CA, that will begin play in 2005-06. On May 4, the League announced plans for an expansion team in Newark, NJ, that will begin play in 2007-08. The Dallas Sidekicks, currently reorganizing under new leadership, plan to return for the 2005-06 season. The MISL is the single major league of indoor soccer.
