Misiewicz Flirts with No-No in Blaze Win

April 30, 2016 - California League (CalL1)
Bakersfield Blaze News Release

No matter the day, no matter the opponent, Bakersfield starting pitching has answered the call. On a muggy Friday night in San Bernardino, it was Anthony Misiewicz's turn to shine bright.

Misiewicz threw 8 strong innings of shutout ball and took a no-hitter into the 7th inning as the Blaze held on to beat the 66ers, 4-3.

For 6 innings Misiewicz was nearly flawless as he struck out three and walked a single batter. The left-hander worked his way through the Inland Empire lineup by retiring 17-consecutive hitters until he met Caleb Adams to start the 7th. Adams was able to dump a bloop single into right-center field over the outstretched glove of Gianfranco Wawoe to spoil any kind of late inning drama.

After the hit, catcher Tyler Marlette went out to have a quick chat before Misiewicz finished things off.

On an evening where run support was limited, Misiewicz finished threw 99 pitches and exited the game with a 4-0 lead until the bullpen came in to seal his victory.

As is the case early this season, Bakersfield's backend arms made things interesting until the final out.

Ronald Dominguez walked a batter then gave up a single to Tim Arakawa, triple to Caleb Adams, and then another single to Taylor Ward. A 4-0 cushion turned into a 4-3 lead with still no outs in the 9th inning. Summoned in hurry, Ryan Horstman came in and retired the next three batters he faced to preserve the win.

With the victory, the Blaze are now 9-12 on the season. Misiewicz picked up his first win and Horstman captured his first save of 2016.

Chantz Mack hit a two-run blast off the scoreboard in the 7th inning to give the Blaze a 2-0 lead. Bakersfield extended their lead to four in the 8th after a Drew Jackson RBI single scored Wawoe and Jay Baum brought home Jackson with a hit.

The three-game series continues on Saturday at Sam Manuel Stadium with first pitch at 7:05. David Gascon will have the call on TuneIn Radio and BakersfieldBlaze.com.
