Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release

JUPITER -- Chris Cates delivered a tenth-inning RBI single with two out to lead the Fort Myers Miracle (11-6) to a 4-3 victory in ten innings over the Palm Beach Cardinals (8-9).

Kyle Waldrop (1-2) got the win in two innings of relief. Joe Mauer was 1-for-2 with an RBI single and run scored. He also drew two walks before being lifted from the game after catching seven innings.

Adam Reifer took the loss for Palm Beach. The Miracle are now 4-0 against the Cardinals this season.

Fort Myers never trailed in the game after scoring two in the third inning. Mauer started the scoring with an RBI single to bring in Ben Revere before himself being driven in on a Chris Parmelee single. The two-time All Star and Gold Glove winner scored from second, running full-speed, and showed no signs of soreness as he crossed the plate.

Adron Chambers' double helped get those runs back for the Cards in the fifth. Chambers hit a sinking liner that landed just in front of Parmelee and got past him all the way to the wall. The relay throw from Estarlin de los Santos was off-line, allowing Chambers to come all the way around and score on the same play. But the Miracle would get the run right back in the top of the sixth with a de los Santos double, scoring Danny Berg.

The Cardinals tied it back up against Spencer Steedley in the seventh, setting the stage for Chris Cates' RBI single with runners at first and second in the tenth. Berg scored his second run of the game and Waldrop finished for the win.

The Miracle and Cardinals meet again at Roger Dean Stadium in this three-game series on Tuesday night at 6:35 p.m.
