Miracle clip Mets in extras, 4-3 Strom hits first FSL home run

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The Fort Myers Miracle edged the St. Lucie Mets 4-3 in 10 innings on Wednesday at First Data Field.

The Miracle played small ball to score their run in extras. Sean Miller led off the 10th by legging out an infield hit. He went to second base on a sac bunt, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on Brandon Lopez's sac fly.

Tyler Jay earned the win by tossing a scoreless eighth and ninth to force extra innings. Michael Kohn registered his first save with a scoreless 10th.

Mets reliever Gerson Bautista took the tough loss. The run in the top of the 10th was unearned because of the passed ball.

The Mets went down 3-0 early when Chris Paul hit a three-run homer with two outs in the third inning against starter Kevin Canelon.

The Mets scraped back two runs in the fourth on throwing error by Miller at second base and a sac fly off the bat of J.C. Rodriguez to make it 3-2.

Ian Strom tied the game in the fifth with a solo home run, his first in the FSL.

The Mets had a couple of chances to break the tie in regulation. They loaded the bases later in the fifth inning against a tired Clark Beeker, but Jose Garcia struck out to end the inning.

Jacob Zanon reached third base with one out in the sixth inning but was thrown out at home plate when Tim Tebow hit a ground ball to Jermaine Palacios at short.

The wildest play came in the seventh. The Mets had runners on first and second with no outs when Michael Paez grounded into the rare 5-4-3 triple play to end the inning.

Mets reliever Josh Torres pitched three perfect innings with three strikeouts.

Tebow collected his ninth double.

The Mets (60-74, 27-39) start a series with the Palm Beach Cardinals on Thursday. First pitch from First Data Field is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. It will be the final Dollar Night of the season.
