Minor League Baseball Attendance Boom Continues

June 7, 2007 - Midwest League (MWL1) News Release

ST. PETERSBURG, FL-Minor League Baseball attendance continued its strong surge as 7,708,773 fans attended games during the month of May, pushing the two-month total to 13,613,842.

That puts the affiliated leagues in a virtual dead-heat with last year's pace when they set an all-time record by drawing 41.7-million fans. In raw numbers, this year's total shows an increase of 230,488 fans but for more playing dates since the season opened one day earlier in April. On an average crowd per playing date, the totals are nearly deadlocked, a difference of just six people, 3,862 this year to 3,868 in 2006.

Seven of the 11 full-season leagues recorded increases in average crowd size, led by the Midwest League (10.4 percent) and the California League, up by 7.5%. Other leagues showing improvement in crowd size were the International, Pacific Coast, Eastern, Texas and Florida State.
