November 28, 2012 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) - Minnesota Swarm
SAINT PAUL, Minn. - The National Lacrosse League's (NLL) Minnesota Swarm today announced that the team has signed rookie T Brock Sorensen (No. 2 overall pick) to a one-year deal.
Sorensen, 23, became the highest draft pick in Swarm history this past October during the 2012 NLL Entry Draft and was one of Minnesota's four first-round selections this year. The Peterborough, Ontario native spent his collegiate career at Ohio State University as one of the nation's most decorated midfielders from 2009-12, and was a two-time captain for the Buckeyes. In 2011, Sorensen became Ohio State's first true junior to be named a captain since 2005. As a senior last spring, Sorensen recorded 12 goals and 10 ground balls in 14 games. With his 6-foot-6, 220-pound frame, Sorensen was highly regarded as the top defensive and transition player in this year's draft.
Sorensen joins the Swarm having spent time with head coach Joe Sullivan and team captain Andrew Suitor on his hometown squad, the MSL's Peterborough Lakers. Sorensen has also won both a Mann Cup and Minto Cup in Canada.
"What we found in Brock was truly the full package player," Sullivan said. "He can do it on the floor, he can do it the locker room... everything we've looked for, he's going to bring. We don't want to put too much pressure on him too early, but I think you are going to find that Brock is going to get his feet underneath him really quickly and establish himself in this league."
Sorensen and the rest of the Swarm's 2012 draft choices will hit the floor tomorrow during the team's rookie camp at the Toronto Rock Practice Facility in Oakville, Ontario. Minnesota officially opens its first main camp session on Friday, Nov. 30 and will play the Colorado Mammoth on Saturday, Dec. 1 in an exhibition contest.
The contract is currently pending league approval.
