BLAINE, Minn (Jan. 10, 2013) -The Minnesota Stars FC and the North American Soccer League (NASL) unveiled its schedule for the 2013 spring season today. The spring season will feature a grand total of 42 matches, with the top team claiming the spring championship and the right to host the 2013 NASL Soccer Bowl after the conclusion of the fall season.
The Minnesota Stars FC will start the season facing the 2012 NASL regular season champions, the San Antonio Scorpions at the Hubert H. Humphrey (HHH) Metrodome in Minneapolis on April 6 at 7:30 p.m.
"We're excited for the challenge of the new split-season format and to play a handful of games at the Metrodome and in Blaine," said Minnesota Stars FC head coach, Manny Lagos. "It will be an exciting way for our fans and players to start the season."
The spring season will include seven teams with all games taking place on weekdays and holidays. Minnesota Stars FC will be joined by the Atlanta Silverbacks, Carolina RailHawks, FC Edmonton, Fort Lauderdale Strikers, San Antonio Scorpions and Tampa Bay Rowdies in the spring. The Puerto Rico Islanders announced in December that they would use the spring season to reorganize and will rejoin the league for the fall along with the reborn New York Cosmos.
The spring season kicks off Saturday, April 6 and lasts 14 weeks until Thursday, July 4. Each team will have two bye weeks during the competition. Minnesota's bye weeks will fall on April 13 in week two and June 15 in week 11.
