Iowa Wild News Release

DES MOINES, IA - Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has recalled defenseman Ryan Murphy from the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Murphy, 24 (3/31/93), has tallied 11 points (1-1011) and 39 shots on goal in 18 games with Iowa this season. He ranks second on the team in assists and T-4th in scoring. Murphy ranks T-8th amongst AHL defensemen in assists and T-15th in scoring. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound native of Aurora, Ontario, tallied two assists in 27 games with the Carolina Hurricanes and one assist in seven contests with the Charlotte Checkers last season. He owns 37 points (6-3137) in 151 career NHL games during five seasons with Carolina (2012-17).

Murphy, who played in his 100th career AHL game on November 3, has five assists over his last four games. The right-handed shooting defenseman boasts a +8 rating with Iowa this month while currently ranking T-4th on the team in points.

Murphy was originally selected by Carolina in the first round (12th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He was signed as a free agent by Minnesota on July 1 and will wear sweater No. 6 with Minnesota.

Also, Iowa Wild General Manager Brent Flahr announced Monday that the AHL club has signed left wing Ryan Malone to a professional tryout agreement (PTO).

This marks the veteran winger's second stint in Iowa this season, having previously signed a PTO on October 5. Malone, who will turn 38 on Friday, appeared in eight games for the Wild, recording one assist and 16 penalty minutes.

Malone last played for the Wild on October 28, one day prior to being released from his original PTO so he could join Team USA at the Deutschland Cup in Augsburg, Germany. Malone served as an alternate captain for Team USA in the two games he played.

The Pittsburgh, PA native has skated in 647 NHL games in his career. He was also a member of Team USA in the 2010 Olympics, earning a silver medal. Malone did not play professional hockey in the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons.

The Iowa Wild hosts the Milwaukee Admirals at 7 p.m. for Tacos, Trivia and Tallboys Night.

The Iowa Wild 2017-18 season is presented by Mercy Medical Center and runs from October through April. For more information, please contact the Wild office by calling 515-564-8700 or by visiting www.iowawild.com.
