Military Veterans and Support Organizations to Benefit from Annual Homerun for Heroes Baseball Game

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - Connecticut military veterans and several organizations supporting them will be honored at the 3rdAnnual Homerun for Heroes Bridgeport Bluefish Baseball Game on Saturday, July 13, at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

Proceeds from the evening will benefit the Connecticut Veterans Legal Center, Columbus House's Homefront Initiative and the Connecticut Fallen Heroes Foundation. Tickets cost $10.00 per seat for Reserved Seats and may be purchased at www.bridgeportbluefish.com.

"Sikorsky Aircraft is proud to support Homerun for Heroes. As an employer with nearly 3,000 veterans, we know first-hand the tremendous sacrifices they have made for our state and country. It is our privilege to honor them," said Mick Maurer, president of Sikorsky Aircraft, sponsor of Homerun for Heroes along with United Technologies Corp.(Sikorsky's parent company) and Teamsters Local 1150, representing union workers at Sikorsky facilities in Connecticut, Florida and Alabama.

"Homerun for Heroes is an evening of fun and reflection that honors our Connecticut military veterans and the vital organizations that support them. It is an annual event we all look forward to supporting," said Rocco Calo, Secretary-Treasurer of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 1150.

"The entire Bridgeport Bluefish organization is proud to host the annual Homerun for Heroes Baseball Game. It's an event that brings the community together to say ‘thank you' to all our Connecticut veterans. It is, truly, a homerun kind of event," said Frank Boulton, principal/owner of the Bridgeport Bluefish.

The July 13 Homerun for Heroes festivities begin at 5:00 p.m. with a Sikorsky helicopter fly-in, followed by pre-game activities, on-field and between-inning events and a post-game fireworks display.

Beneficiaries of Homerun for Heroes are West Haven-based Connecticut Veterans Legal Center, which helps veterans recovering from homelessness and mental illness overcome legal barriers to housing, healthcare and income; New Haven-based Harkness House, a transitional housing program providing support to 14 male veterans and part of Columbus House's Homefront initiative to support veterans who are homeless; and the Connecticut Fallen Heroes Foundation, Inc., a 100 percent volunteer organization dedicated to honoring the brave servicemen and women from Connecticut who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

With donations expected from this year's event, Homerun for Heroes will have raised nearly $90,000 for these military veterans support organizations.
