Montreal, December 20, 2017 - The Montreal Alouettes announced Wednesday that Mike Sherman has been appointed the 24th Head Coach in the history of the Montreal Alouettes.

The 63-year-old coach brings close to 40 years of coaching experience at the high school, university and professional levels with him. Sherman was head coach of the Green Bay Packers in the NFL from 2000 to 2005. From 2001 to 2004, he was also the club's General Manager. The team showed a 57-39 record in six seasons with him at the helm. During that time, the Packers won three division titles in 2002, 2003 and 2004. In his six seasons as the Head Coach he led the Packers to five winning seasons. His 53-27 record in Green Bay from 2000 to 2004 place him second in the club history with a winning percentage of .663 as a Head Coach.

We went through a thorough selection process, but from the beginning, we knew that Mike was the man for the job. We liked his vision of the team and his expectations", said Alouettes' General Manager Kavis Reed. "He has experience as a head coach at the professional level and he will know how to motivate his players and push them to perform to their full potential."

An offensive-minded coach, the Northborough, MA native led the Packers to break franchise records for rushing yards (2,558) in 2003 and passing yards (4,449) in 2004. In 2003, Packers quarterback Brett Favre led the NFL with 32 touchdown passes. The 2003 team also scored a total of 442 points, which is the fourth best total in rich history of the glorified franchise."It's a great honour to be named Head Coach of the Montreal Alouettes. I enjoyed my discussions with ownership and management. Through these discussions, I came away that there is a unified front when it comes to the Montreal Alouettes," said Sherman.

"My goal is to bring passion and accountability that our fans will see when the team plays this season. We need to give Montrealers a competitive team that strives to be at a championship level in everything we do as a team and as an organization. I am looking forward to talking to the players and hear their thoughts about this upcoming season," added the new Head Coach.

I have heard some great things about the Canadian Football League and I know that the fans in Montreal are passionate and we will give them a competitive team on the field. We know what's ahead and we're all looking forward to training camp next May.

"He first joined Green Bay in 1997 as an offensive line and tight end coach where for two season. He then followed Mike Holmgrem to Seattle, where he was named offensive coordinator prior to returning to Green Bay.

Sherman subsequently worked for the Houston Texans as the Assistant Head Coach and offensive coordinator for two seasons in 2006 and 2007 before being named Head Coach of the Texas A&M Aggies in the NCAA in 2008. He led the team to three bowl games in four seasons while working with quarterback Ryan Tannehill. After four seasons in Texas, he returned to the NFL, this time with the Miami Dolphins as offensive coordinator for two seasons.

Until May 2017, he was the Head Coach at Nauset Regional High School in Massachusetts. In October Coach Sherman agreed to work with the innovative startup Your Call Football (YCF). He will continue his position with YCF leveraging opportunities the startup presents for the Alouettes.
