Mike Hoffman Wins League Award
SAINT JOHN, NB --- The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League announced today that Saint John Sea Dogs forward Mike Hoffman has been named the TELUS Offensive Player of the Month for January. This is the season time this season that Hoffman has won this award.
In ten games played last month, Hoffman registered 7G-12A-19P in addition to a rating of +6. The Ottawa Senators prospect currently ranks second in the QMJHL with 33 goals on the season. Hoffman's 11 game-winning markers, meanwhile, represents the highest total of any player in the league this year.
The QMJHL also announced today that Moncton Wildcats defenseman David Savard has been named the TELUS Defensive Player of the Month. Superstar Sea Dogs blue-liner Simon Després was given strong consideration for the award. Després, 18, recorded 10GP-2G-10A-12P in January while earning a highly-impressive rating of +11 and helping Saint John register a league-best penalty killing success rate of 95.3%.
Sea Dogs import winger Tomas Jurco was also considered for January's TELUS Rookie of the Month Award, which was won by Rimouski Oceanic centre Alex Belzile. Jurco, 17, tallied 10GP-7G-5A-12P during the opening thirty-one days of 2010.
