Midfielder Lindsey Horan Added to Thorns FC Through U.S. Women's National Team Allocation Process

PORTLAND, Ore. - As part of the National Team player allocation process for the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), Portland Thorns FC have received U.S. Women's National Team midfielder Lindsey Horan, while midfielder Tobin Heath and defender Meghan Klingenberg remain allocated players, it was announced today.

Earlier today, Thorns FC and Orlando Pride completed the final piece of their Oct. 26, 2015 trade, in which the Thorns received the rights to a new U.S. Women's National Team Allocated Player joining the NWSL in exchange for their first-round pick (No. 10 overall) in the 2016 College Draft to the Pride. As a result, Portland has received returning U.S. Women's National Team player Lindsey Horan.

"Lindsey is a player who we feel will be an important part of the U.S. Women's National Team for years to come and we are thrilled to have her join Thorns FC," said Gavin Wilkinson, general manager of Thorns FC. "She will be an excellent addition to the team and already possesses valuable experience from her time with PSG and at the international level."

After graduating from Golden High School in Golden, Colo., Horan, 21, signed to play professionally with French club Paris Saint-Germain on Jan. 7, 2012. Horan played for the club from 2012-15, appearing in 75 games and tallying 53 goals. In her first season in 2012-13 at the age of 18, Horan scored 20 goals in 25 matches across all competitions. The Colorado native played in UEFA Women's Champions League competition in three consecutive editions, helping PSG to the 2014-15 Champions League Final before falling to FFC Frankfurt. In her final season with the club, Horan tallied eight goals in 13 matches, including two goals in four Champions League matches.

"Lindsey is a very intelligent player who brings special qualities on and off the field," said Thorns FC head coach Mark Parsons. "Her passing range and creativity combined with her ability to score all types of goals will be important to the attacking style we will play. I am excited to welcome her to the club and look forward to seeing her in March."

Horan, who has six international caps for the U.S. Women's National Team, earned her first cap in a 5-0 win over China at the 2013 Algarve Cup, entering the match as a substitute in the 74th minute. Currently in January camp with the United States, Horan appeared in four matches (3 starts) and tallied a goal and three assists in 2015. She scored her first international goal on Dec. 10 against Trinidad and Tobago, while also registering a pair of assists in a 6-0 win at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

As a youth international, Horan played with the U.S. U-15, U-17 and U-20 Women's National Teams. With the U-20 Women's National Team, Horan led the squad to the CONCACAF U-20 Women's Championship in 2012 and 2014. In 2012, Horan appeared in all five games during qualifying, tallying four goals and one assist, but missed the 2012 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Japan due to a knee injury.

In 2014, Horan scored three goals and added an assist in just 180 minutes of action during the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship before being recalled by PSG. At the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, Horan appeared in four matches, scoring three goals as the United States advanced to the quarterfinals. In the group stage, Horan tallied the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win against Brazil and added a brace in a 3-0 win against China. At the U-17 level, Horan tallied 15 goals in 17 international appearances for the United States.
