Tri-City Storm News Release

Fargo, ND. - Carson Meyer scored two insurance goals for the Tri-City Storm, giving it enough power to get by the Fargo Force, 5-4, Friday at Scheels Arena.

Meyer's three-point night, his third of the campaign, included his team-leading 20th goal of the season, which extended Tri-City's lead to 4-2 halfway through the final period.

Down, 5-2, Fargo scored two goals in the last minute with its net emptied, but was unable to solve Jake Kielly after scoring within one in the final 13 seconds. Kielly made 36 saves on 40 shots, moving to 9-0-0-1 when he's made at least 30 saves.

Mattias Goransson had three assists, two on Tri-City's first three goals. Goransson dished to Nico Sturm, who scored on the Storm's first shot, a power-play goal 2:45 into the opening frame. After receiving a pass at center, Sturm weaved left behind Ryan Wischow's net and beat the goalie to the right post for a wrap around goal. The goalie Kielly took the secondary helper, his second of the season and third by a Storm goalie.

Sturm has 11 goals this season, seven on the man up. Goransson leads Tri-City defensemen with 28 points.

The Storm scored twice more in the second before Fargo answered with two straight goals.

Off a net-mouth scramble, the Storm's Monte Graham nipped the puck to extend the lead to 2-0. Initially, Graham shot the puck from the right circle and Meyer centered it to the Boston College commit at 4:08, Graham's third of the season.

Meyer continued to light up the Force after the Storm went on a 5-on-3 man advantage two minutes later. With Griffin Foulk and Cole Gallant in the box, Meyer received a pass at high slot from John Marino and shot the biscuit past Wischow glove side. Meyer leads the Storm with 19 goals and 33 points. Nico Sturm earned the secondary helper at 6:50 of the second.

Starting netminder Ryan Wischow was pulled after Meyer's goal, making eight saves. Prior to tonight's game, Wischow had allowed one goal in his previous three starts. Robbie Beydoun stepped in for relief and allowed two goals on 17 shots.

The "other" Meyer, Grant Meyer for the Force, scored the next two goals for Fargo, first at 7:39 of the second on a short-handed penalty shot. Next, he scored on the power play with ten seconds left in the middle frame to bring Fargo within a goal.

Carson Meyer lit up the scoreboard in the third again, making four straight goals scored by a player with the last name "Meyer". At 8:29 of the third, the Miami of Ohio commit deflected Mattias Goransson's right-point try.

Just 1:10 later, Alex Limoges backhanded his fifth of the season, unassisted, to extend the lead, 5-2.

Saturday at 7:05 p.m., the Storm suits up against the Force for a second straight day, with the Viaero Wireless Pregame Show at 6:45 p.m. Tri-City is next at home on Feb. 19 against Sioux Falls for Thunderstruck Night, with a Free Kids Friday and a special thunderstick giveaway.
