CLEARWATER, Fla. (August 17, 2017) - The St. Lucie Mets put together a late rally and went on to beat the Clearwater Threshers 6-4 in 10 innings on Thursday at Spectrum Field.
The Mets entered the ninth inning down by a run. Michael Paez started the comeback with a leadoff double against Threshers closer Seth McGarry. Paez advanced to third on a sac bunt and scored on a wild pitch to tie the game 4-4.
In the top of the 10th, Peter Alonso reached on a walk and Jhoan Urena singled. The duo advanced a base on another McGarry wild pitch. Wuilmer Becerra broke the tie with a single to plate Alonso. Becerra later scored on a two-out single by J.C. Rodriguez to make it 6-4 Mets.
Gerson Bautista pitched a perfect bottom of the 10th to earn his second save in three days.
In the eighth inning, Mets reliever Austin McGeorge gave up a sac fly that put the Threshers up 4-3. McGeorge rebounded to pitch a clean ninth and force extra innings. He was credited with the win.
The Mets jumped out to an early lead when Urena clubbed a three-run homer in the first inning off of Edgar Garcia.
The Threshers slowly chipped away with single runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings to tie the game.
Becerra went 3 for 5. John Mora, Anthony Dimino and Urena had two hits apiece.
Mets starter Harol Gonzalez pitched three scoreless innings in his FSL debut.
The Mets took three of four from the Threshers in the series. The Mets won the season series 7-3.
The Mets (56-66, 23-21) return to First Data Field on Friday to start a three-game series vs. the Dunedin Blue Jays. First pitch on Friday is 6:30 p.m.
