St. Lucie Mets News Release

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (June 23, 2017) - The St. Lucie Mets set season highs in runs and hits as they clobbered the Charlotte Stone Crabs 19-7 at First Data Field on Friday.

First baseman Peter Alonso, the Mets second round draft pick out of Florida last year, went 4 for 5 with a grand slam, three doubles, five RBI and three runs scored.

Vinny Siena came off the bench as a pinch hitter in the fifth inning and bashed a grand slam to put the Mets ahead 18-6. It was Siena's first career home run.

The Mets registered 20 hits. They fell behind 5-0 after two innings but scored four runs in the third. They put up seven runs in the fourth inning and then seven more in the fifth inning.

Alonso's grand slam came in the fourth off knuckleballer Taylor Hawkins. It put the Mets up 11-6.

Jhoan Urena blasted a three-run homer in the fifth inning. It was his sixth of the season and third in the last four games.

Ten of the 11 players who came to the plate for the Mets collected a hit. John Mora, Patrick Mazeika, Wuilmer Becerra, J.C. Rodriguez and Enmanuel Zabala had two hits each.

The Mets got an uneven start from Jordan Humphreys. In his first FSL game, the former Columbia Fireflies All Star allowed six runs (five earned) on 11 hits in only four innings.

Alex Palsha tossed two scoreless innings to get the win. Aneury Olivo was brought over from the GCL Mets earlier in the day as a fresh arm and he pitched the final three innings to get the save.

The Mets (1-1, 34-36) and Stone Crabs (32-38) meet again on Saturday at First Data Field. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. There will be postgame fireworks!
