Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, Tennessee - The Oklahoma City Dodgers (Dodgers) forced the Memphis Redbirds into five double plays, including one to end the game, to take game two of a three-game series, 3-2, Sunday afternoon at AutoZone Park.
The five double plays against the Redbirds (6-5) tied a team record, set four other times. Five different players had Memphis' hits on the day, including Patrick Wisdom doubling in the second inning for the third time in two games. Daniel Poncedeleon was solid in his second-career Triple-A start, working 4.2 innings and giving up one run on three hits, and striking out five. He left with a 2-1 lead, but the Dodgers (7-4) tied it up with a home run by the very next batter in the fifth inning.
The score remained tied at 2 until the top of the seventh, when Oklahoma City capitalized on a leadoff walk that came around to score with the benefit of an error. That was the only run reliever Zach Phillips allowed, which was unearned, but he was still saddled with the loss after Memphis could not complete the comeback.
In the bottom of the ninth, trailing 3-2, pinch-hitter Luke Voit reached on an error to lead off the inning. After a flyout to center, Todd Cunningham grounded into a double play to end the contest.
Memphis has now lost four-straight games after winning four-in-a-row prior to that.
Memphis and Oklahoma City conclude their three-game series, and Memphis' seven-game homestand, tomorrow morning at 11:05 in the season's first Education Day game. The Redbirds go on the road for eight games after that and return to AutoZone Park for a five-game series with Round Rock April 27-May 1.
