Iowa Cubs News Release

DES MOINES, IA - Bijan Rademacher sent the game to extras with a ninth-inning home run, but the Memphis Redbirds (14-4) took the ultimate 8-6 victory over the Iowa Cubs (4-11) in 12 innings, Sunday at Principal Park.

Rademacher, activated from the disabled list today, skied the first pitch of the bottom of the ninth from Preston Guilmet over the left field fence, tying the game 4-4. Into extras, both teams scored one in the each of the 10th and 11th frames before Memphis took the lasting lead in the 12th. Luke Voit walked with bases loaded to bring in the go-ahead run and Rangel Ravelo singled in an insurance run.

Iowa got the first lead of the game with single runs in both the first and the third. Mike Freeman led off with a single and scored later in the first on an RBI single by Chris Gimenez. Two frames later Freeman started the drive again with a single and this time, was knocked in on a Mark Zagunis sac fly.

Memphis retaliated with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth, scored on RBI singles by Adolis Garcia and Wilfredo Tovar. The Redbirds doubled their score and captured their first lead with another two in the fifth. Oscar Mercado homered before Carson Kelly doubled in another run.

Zagunis singled in another in the fifth to make it a one-run game. That would be the last of the scoring until the ninth. Zagunis, 1-for-1 with two RBI today, is batting .571 (12-for-21) through an active seven-game hitting streak.

The top three in Iowa's order, Freeman, Stephen Bruno and Efren Navarro, were 7-for-15, while the rest of the order was 5-for-30. Michael Roth (0-1) took the loss and Edward Mujica (2-0) the win.

The homestand wraps tomorrow with a 12:08 game against Memphis. For more information or tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
