Media Release -- Winterhawks' Kehler Named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week

Toronto, ON - The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Cole Kehler of the Portland Winterhawks is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending November 5 after posting a 3-0-0-0 record with a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .976.

Kehler receives the honour for the second time this season after turning aside 120 shots across a trio of victories for the Winterhawks who move into a first place tie in the WHL's U.S Division with a 12-4-0-0 record. Kehler earned first star honours in all three of his games last week beginning Wednesday night against the Prince George Cougars with 30 saves in the 2-1 victory. On Friday night he stopped a season-high 47 shots in a 4-1 road win against the Spokane Chiefs, then stopped 43 shots on Saturday in Everett as part of a 3-1 triumph over the Silvertips playing in his 100th career game.

A 19-year-old from Altona, MB, Kehler is playing in his first season in Portland after being acquired from the Kamloops Blazers in the off-season. The third year netminder currently holds a 10-2-0-0 record including one shutout with a league-best goals-against-average of 2.09 and save percentage of .935.

Also considered for the award this week was Etienne Montpetit of the Val-d'Or Foreurs who posted a 2-1-0-0 record including a shutout victory making 118 saves for a goalsa-against-average of 1.97 and save percentage of .952. In the OHL, Carolina Hurricanes prospect Jeremy Helvig backstopped the Kingston Frontenacs to a 3-0-0-0 record making 76 saves for a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .962.
