Calgary, Alta. - Hockey Canada has announced Regina Pats defenceman Josh Mahura will be rejoining Canada's National Junior Team for its 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship pre-tournament schedule.

Mahura (Regina Pats / St. Albert, Alta.) is expected to rejoin the team Sunday and will continue preparations, while the team monitors defenceman Dante Fabbro's (Coquitlam, BC) lower-body injury. Fabbro is receiving treatment and may be eligible to return for the World Junior Championship.

"We are thankful to Josh for agreeing to return to the team for the pre-tournament phase in our preparations," said Joel Bouchard, Program of Excellence Management Group. "We also want to thank the Regina Pats, the Western Hockey League and the Canadian Hockey League for their support through this process."

Mahura was initially released Saturday by Hockey Canada as eight WHL players were named to the nation's roster for the World Junior Championship. He joins goaltender Carter Hart (Everett Silvertips / Sherwood Park, Alta.), defencemen Jake Bean (Calgary Hitmen / Calgary, Alta.), Kale Clague (Brandon Wheat Kings / Lloydminster, Alta.), Cal Foote (Kelowna Rockets / Kelowna, B.C.), and forwards Dillon Dube (Kelowna Rockets / Cochrane, Alta.), Brett Howden (Moose Jaw Warriors / Oakbank, Man.), Sam Steel (Regina Pats / Sherwood Park, Alta.) and Tyler Steenbergen (Swift Current Broncos / Sylan Lake, Alta.) on Canada's roster.

Canada will play a pair of pre-tournament games this week, starting December 20 when they face the Czech Republic in London, Ont. They will follow that game with a matchup against Switzerland on December 22 in Hamilton, Ont., before finalizing their National Junior Team roster on December 24.

The puck will officially drop on the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship, a Canadian holiday tradition, on December 26 in Buffalo, NY. Canada will open the tournament by taking on Finland at 2 p.m. MT.
