Kelowna, BC - The Victoria Royals fell 3-2 in a shootout against the Kelowna Rockets on Saturday night at Prospera Place.

Notes:

A Helping Hand - Royals' forward Tyler Soy recorded his 148th career assist in his 291st career game, which sets the new Victoria record for most assists. The franchise record is held by Royals and Chilliwack Bruins alumnus Brandon Magee, who earned 151 assists in 318 career games played.

Last of the Year - Tonight's game marked the Royals' final contest of 2017. Victoria earned a record of 37-28-4-2 in 2017 and were led offensively by Matthew Phillips, who tallied 101 points (51g-50a) over the calendar year.

Stretching it Out - A pair of Royals extended their point streaks tonight. Soy has found the scoresheet in eight consecutive games and has registered 13 points (5g-8a), while Phillips has earned nine points (5g-4a) in five straight games.

Workhorse - Victoria netminder Griffen Outhouse surpassed the 1,000-save benchmark tonight and is the first WHL netminder to accomplish the feat this season.

Away at World Juniors - Both teams currently have players participating in the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championships taking place in Buffalo, NY. The Royals are represented by Igor Martynov who is playing for Team Belarus, while the Rockets boast Dillon Dube and Cal Foote on Team Canada. Victoria Assistant Coach J.F. Best is also serving as a consultant in Performance Analysis for Team Denmark.

Island Kids - Kelowna boasts three Island born players in Victoria native Ted Brennan, Salt Spring Island product Kyle Topping and Kyle Pow, who hails from Nanaimo.

Next Up - The Royals will face the Kamloops Blazers on Monday, January 1st at the Sandman Centre with puck drop set for 2:00 p.m.

Coming Home - Victoria returns home for a contest with the Everett Silvertips on Friday, January 5th at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre for the team's first home game of 2018.
