Lincoln, Neb. - Josef Korenar made 30 saves to help the Lincoln Stars defeat the Omaha Lancers, 4-2, in Ralston Arena on Saturday.
The win pushed the Stars to 21-13-5 and moved them to 4-0-1 against the Lancers this season.
Alex Green opened the scoring for the Stars with four minutes remaining in the first period. Green's goal came on a shot from the point and marked his first USHL goal. Chayse Primeau and Cole Krygier had assists on the play.
Ethen Frank extended the Stars lead to 2-0 at 5:28 of the second period after catching a puck from the defensive zone and taking it for a breakaway from the red line. Frank's goal was shorthanded and his 14th of the season.
The Stars took a three-goal advantage at 10:46 of the third period when Dominick Mersch broke down the left wing boards and fired a snap shot over the glove of Lancers goalie Tommy Nappier. Mersch's goal was his eighth of the year. Omaha cut the lead to 3-1 nearly three minutes later on their sixth power play of the night, but Mike Gillespie's empty netter sealed the victory for the Stars. Gillespie's goal was his fifth of the season. The Lancers second goal came with 26 seconds remaining.
Lincoln finished 0/4 on the power play and 5/6 on the penalty kill.
