Lincoln, Neb. - The Lincoln Stars scored twice on the power play to defeat the Tri-City Storm, 3-2, on Friday in the Ice Box.
The win moved the Stars to 29-20-5 and brought them to within four points of a playoff spot.
The Stars controlled the first period, outshooting the Storm, 15-6, and taking a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. At 10:28 of the first, Christian Evers fired a stretch pass for Chayse Primeau, allowing Primeau to deke Storm goalie Eric Dop and slide the puck into the empty net for his third of the season.
Tri-City responded from a lackluster performance in the first period to outshoot the Stars, 11-9, in the second and make it 1-1 after 40 minutes. Wyatt Bongiovanni put a backhander over Stars goalie Josef Korenar to notch the equalizer.
The Storm took their only lead of the game at 5:14 of the third period when Adam Goodsir buried a puck trickling under the pad of Korenar, but the Stars bounced back with two power play goals to secure the victory. Lincoln capitalized on a five-minute power play before the halfway point of the third period with goals from Evers and Collin Peters. Evers scored his seventh of the year while Peters recorded his fourth of the season.
The Stars finished 2/5 on the power play and 3/3 on the penalty kill.
Korenar made 25 saves in his third-consecutive start.
