July 15, 2017 - United States Hockey League (USHL) - Lincoln Stars News Release

Lincoln, Neb. - Lincoln Stars goalie Josef Korenar signed a three-year contract with the San Jose Sharks, the Sharks announced on Friday.

Korenar recorded a 14-11-2 record with the second-best save percentage (.925) and fourth-best GAA (2.22) in the USHL last season. The 6'1," 175-pound goalie has represented the Czech Republic at the 2015 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup and the 2015 World Junior A Challenge. He participated in the 2017 Sharks Development Camp in July.

"We are extremely excited and happy that Josef has earned this opportunity while playing in Lincoln," Stars General Manager Jon Hull said. "It speaks volumes to the caliber of play in the USHL and how players in the league are viewed by NHL scouts. We have to continue to attract skilled and high-character players to our organization and having players sign NHL contracts will help us continue to do this."

Eight (8) Stars alumni appeared in at least one (1) NHL game last season. Korenar follows alumni Brandon Bollig (San Jose Sharks), Zach Aston-Reese (Pittsburgh Penguins) and Paul LaDue (Los Angeles Kings) who signed NHL contracts after the conclusion of the 2016-2017 season.
