McLeary Wins First, Fisher Cats Edge Mets 3-2 Tuesday Night

Binghamton, NY---David Cooper singled with two outs in the top of the third inning and Brad Emaus walked with the bases loaded later in the frame as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats opened a series in Binghamton with a 3-2 win Tuesday night in a game delayed nearly two hours at the start due to rain.

Brian Jeroloman led off the decisive inning for the Fisher Cats (33-44) with a single. Binghamton starter Eric Niesen (0-4) bounced back with two strikeouts before walking Todd Donovan and Darin Mastrioanni to load the bases. Cooper (1-for-4, 2 RBI) drilled a single to left field to drive in two runs. Niesen was then lifted from the game after walking Brian Dopirak and Brad Emaus as the Fisher Cats opened a 3-0 lead.

Binghamton (29-47) scored its two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. D. J. Wabick singled and moved to second on a Shawn Bowman single. Ruben Tejeda sacrificed the runners up before Jose Cornado (2-for-3, 2 RBI) delivered a two-run single to cut the New Hampshire lead 3-2.

New Hampshire starter Marty McLeary (1-0) picked up his first win as a Fisher Cat, working 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits. He walked one and struck out four. Rommie Lewis worked 2.2 scoreless innings in relief. Danny Farquhar set down the Mets in order in the last of the ninth inning for his second save.

The Fisher Cats managed only three hits in the game. Mets relievers Jake Ruckle and Stephen Clyne worked 6.1 innings of scoreless relief. Brian Dopirak singled off Clyne to start the ninth inning to extend his season-high hit streak to 14 games.

The series continues on Wednesday night with a 7:05pm first pitch at NYSEG Stadium. RHP Brandon Magee (4-5, 5.06) starts for New Hampshire against Binghamton RHP Eric Brown (4-7, 5.54). The game can be heard on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network beginning at 6:45pm with Bob Lipman.

The Fisher Cats will host the Portland Sea Dogs, Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, in a three-game series over Fourth of July weekend at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. The series begins on Saturday, July 4, when the Fisher Cats take the field wearing the red, white and blue of the New Hampshire Primaries for a 7:05pm game vs. Portland, followed by a Fourth of July Atlas Fireworks Show.

On Sunday, July 5, the USA Baseball National Team takes on the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) All-Stars in a 2:45pm game, followed by the Fisher Cats/Sea Dogs 6:35pm in a single-admission doubleheader that will be capped by another Fourth of July Atlas Fireworks Show.
