LAKE CHARLES LA. - The Louisiana Swashbucklers announce Ben McLaughlin, a former quarterback with Louisiana College, has signed with the team, according to head coach Darnell Lee.
At 6'2" and 205 lbs., McLaughlin completed 284 of 446 passes for 3,770 yards last season. His average of 377 yards per game was the highest in the NCAA's Division III. His accomplishment of 42 touchdowns to only 13 interceptions is an American Southwest Conference record. The Wildcats attained a 7-3 record with McLaughlin setting other school and conference records.
For his performance on the field McLaughlin was the winner of the Melberger Award and named the ASC Offensive Player of the Year along with being a member of the First Team All Louisiana. He earned an additional honor by being selected to the Associated Press Little All-America team, which honors players from the NCAA Division II, III and the NAIA. The signal caller was a finalist for the Gagliardi Trophy, the highest individual award in Division III college football.
"McLaughlin is very impressive with his performance at Louisiana College," Lee said. "Having him this season guiding our offense on the field will allow us to score quickly and challenge opposing defenses."
