Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, in their 20th season in the American Hockey League, today announced that the Boston Bruins have reassigned defenseman Zach McKelvie to the Reading Royals (ECHL).
McKelvie, 27 has a goal, assist and 39 penalty minutes in 35 games for Providence this season. The defenseman is a 2009 graduate of the United States Military Academy. The Brighton, Minnesota native notched 14-4256 totals in four years with the Black Knights (AHA). Signed to a one-year contract in July, McKelvie originally signed with the Bruins in 2009, however contractual obligations with the US Army prevented him from moving forward with his hockey career at that time. He captained the Black Knights during his senior season, scoring 17 points and a career-high five goals. In 2009, the defenseman was selected as a first-team All-Atlantic Hockey Association all-star for the second consecutive year and named the Beukema Award winner as the Black Knight's MVP. The 6'2", 200 - lb defenseman won the fastest skater competition at the Frozen Four in 2009.
The Royals (29-26-3-4, 65 PTS) are currently in third place in the Atlantic Division. Last season, the Royals clinched first place in the Atlantic Division with a 44-23-2-3 record. The club advanced to the second round of the playoffs, before falling to the Kalamazoo Wings in four games. McKelvie joins former P-Bruins Rob Kwiet, Olivier Labelle and Karel St. Laurent.
The P-Bruins return to The Dunk Sunday, March 18 for Kid's T-Shirt Night presented by Dunkin' Donuts, Seekonk Supply and East Coast Embroidery at 4:05 p.m. against the Falcons.
