Mayhem Win Overtime Thriller over Pensacola Ice Flyers

MACON, GA- Mayhem goaltender Troy Passingham saved 36 of the 37 shots he faced to earn his first SPHL win, as the Mayhem defeated the Pensacola Ice Flyers 2-1 in overtime.

Pensacola got the scoring started with 2:01 left in the first period, when John Gustafsson snuck the puck past Passingham. The Ice Flyers dominated the first period, outshooting the Mayhem 19-11 in the period.

Less than two minutes into the second period, Matt Johnson fired a shot past Ice Flyers goaltender Matt Zenzola to tie the game at 1-1. The Mayhem outshot the Ice Flyers 16-10 in the second period.

Neither team scored in the third period, so the game headed to overtime. The Mayhem earned two separated four-on-three power plays in overtime, and they capitalized on the second one. Defenseman Nick Grasso snuck the puck past Zenzola for the overtime winner.

NOTABLE STATS

Macon is now 13-1-2 on the season, and they extended their point streak to 13 games tonight.

Troy Passingham started his first game in the SPHL tonight, and earned his first win after saving 36 of the 37 shots he faced.

Matt Johnson has now scored in two of the past three games and has four points in his past four games.

The overtime winner was the Mayhem's first power play goal since November 18th and their first in their last 11 opportunities.
