February 17, 2018 - SPHL (SPHL) - Macon Mayhem News Release

KNOXVILLE, TN- The Macon Mayhem scored three goals in a span of just over three minutes in the third period, as they stormed back to erase a two-goal deficit and defeat the Knoxville Ice Bears 5-4 on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Knoxville got the scoring underway, as Ice Bears' leading scorer Berkley Scott got the first goal of the game at the 12:08 mark of the first period. Just five seconds later, John Siemer tied the game, assisted by Craig Skudalski and former Ice Bear Dennis Sicard. A couple of minutes later, the Ice Bears grabbed the lead once again, as Austin Hervey made it a 2-1 game.

The Mayhem continued the trend of quick goals off of faceoffs in the game, but this one came at the beginning of a period. Just 14 seconds into the second period, Jake Trask scored his 18th goal of the season to tie the game at 2-2. In the final minutes of the period, Laurence Cornellier gave Knoxville their third lead of the game, scoring to make it 3-2.

Knoxville's Berkley Scott scored his second of the game 93 seconds into the third period, and his power play tally padded the Knoxville lead to two. The Mayhem stormed back, however, as Darren McCormick scored on a breakaway to cut the lead in half at the 9:48 mark of the third period. Three minutes later, Brandon Pfeil blasted a slap shot home to tie the game, but they were not done yet. Just 34 seconds after Pfeil tied the game, McCormick scored his second of the period and 22nd of the season on the power play to give the Mayhem their first lead of the game. They held on for the final few minutes to skate away with the 5-4 victory.
