Macon Mayhem News Release

COLUMBUS, GA- The Macon Mayhem were able to secure their first victory of the 2016-2017 season with a 1-0 win against the Columbus Cottonmouths. Both goaltenders played very well and kept this game low-scoring.

The first period had a lot of back and forth action for both teams but only one goal. That goal came near the end of the period when Macon's Nick Grasso scored with 2:28 to go in the first.

John Siemer and Matt Summers were given the assists on that goal as the Mayhem took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

The second period produced no goals for either team, as the Mayhem took a 1-0 lead into the second intermission. However, there were two fights in the period. The first fight was between Daniel Gentzler of Macon and Derek Gingera for Columbus. The second fight came just two minutes later between Macon's Jeff Sanders and Columbus' Cody Castro.

The third period brought much of the same in Columbus, as neither team scored a goal. The Mayhem were able to hold on and win the game.

Notable Stats:

The reigning SPHL MVP, Garrett Bartus, earned his first shutout of the 2016-2017 season, as he made 40 saves to lead the Mayhem to victory.

Columbus goaltender Brandon Jaeger played another good game, making 31 saves on 32 shots.

Macon now goes to 1-0-1 on the season, while Columbus' record goes to 1-1-0.
