MAYHEM GAME RECAP: Mayhem Score Four in the Third in Win over Mississippi

MACON, GA- The Macon Mayhem scored four goals in the third period to spring them to a thrilling 6-5 victory over the Mississippi RiverKings.

In a first period that featured 54 penalty minutes and two different fights between the two teams, Mississippi got on the board first off the stick of Brantley Sherwood. The RiverKings would lead 1-0 after the first.

The two teams played a wild second period on the score sheet, as there were four goals in the frame. Collin MacDonald led off the scoring, firing a shot into the top corner off of a great pass from Jake Trask. Mississippi captain Devin Mantha answered to put the RiverKings up 2-1. Just shortly after, Daniel Echeverri poked home a rebound to tie the game up at 2-2. Near the end of the period, Mantha was stoned on a breakaway chance, but Mike Moran followed up the play and roofed the backhand to give Mississippi the lead once again.

The Mayhem scored four unanswered goals in the third period, including three goals in a 1:14-span. Daniel Gentzler started the scoring spree on the breakaway off of a great stretch pass from Jake Trask. Mayhem defender Chris Joseph scored a highlight reel goal just 20 seconds later to give Macon the 4-3 lead. Just 54 seconds after that, Nick Grasso scored on a point shot to give the Mayhem the 5-3 lead. Dennis Sicard would add insurance for Macon with 9:35 left in the third, scoring his 100th career SPHL goal. Mississippi's Mike Moran would score two more goals to complete the hat trick to make it a 6-5 game, but the Mayhem would hang on to win.

NOTABLE STATS

The Mayhem move to 29-8-5 on the season and are now 13-4-3 at home. The finish out the season series with the RiverKings, going 5-1-0.

Troy Passingham got the start in net tonight, saving 37 of the 32 shots he faced. Passingham is now 6-2-1 on the season.
