MACON, GA- The Macon Mayhem got on the board in this game with a power play goal from Daniel Echeverri, but the team ultimately fell 5-1 to the Huntsville Havoc.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Huntsville got the scoring started with a power play goal from Derek Perl, but the Mayhem answered just a couple of minutes later. Daniel Echeverri scored off of a one-timer on the power play, assisted by captain Daniel Gentzler and assistant captain Jake Trask. Leading Havoc scorer from a year ago, Sy Nutkevitch, poked home his first goal of the season to make it 2-1 near the end of the first period.

The last two periods were all Huntsville, as Nolan Kaiser made it 3-1 on a one-timer on a five-on-three chance. Mayhem goaltender Charlie Finn then turned the puck over to Christian Powers, who shot it into the empty net. The final goal was scored late in the third period, when Danny Smith tapped in a backdoor pass to make it 5-1.

NOTABLE STATS

Charlie Finn made his professional debut in net tonight, allowing five goals on 33 shots from the Havoc.

The Mayhem went just one-for-six on the power play tonight, and they also allowed a short-handed goal to Christian Powers. The Havoc were able to take advantage of their man-advantage opportunities, going two-for-four on the power play.

Daniel Echeverri scored the first goal of the season on the power play, ending a 75-minute drought without a goal. Echeverri lead the Mayhem with seven power play goals last season.

KERR'S COMMENTS

"Obviously not the night or the weekend we were looking for to start the season. We still have a very good team, and we just need to get on the same page. We'll go back to the drawing board, work hard this week, and get ready for this next weekend."
