MAYHEM GAME RECAP: Mayhem Come Back from Two-Goal Deficit to Defeat Bulls in Overtime

BIRMINGHAM, AL- The Macon Mayhem defeated the Birmingham Bulls 4-3 in overtime on the backs of a 44-save effort from goaltender Greg Dodds and a two-goal game from defenseman Daniel Echeverri.

HOW IT HAPPENED

It was all Birmingham in the first period of the game, as they took a 2-0 lead into the locker room. The Mayhem were outshot 21-8 in the period, and the 21 shots allowed in the first represent the most shots the Mayhem have allowed in a single period this season.

The Mayhem chipped into the lead in the second period, as Ryan Salkeld scored his eighth goal of the season to make it 2-1. Stathis Soumelidis and Kristaps Nimanis were given the assists on the goal. Birmingham stretched their lead in the shot category, outshooting Macon 14-12 in the second frame.

The Mayhem tallied two more unanswered goals in the third period to take their first lead of the hockey game. Seth Ronsberg tied the game up with his first goal in a Mayhem uniform, assisted by John Siemer and Jake Trask. Daniel Echeverri then gave Macon the lead, assisted by Chris Izmirlian. With 4.6 seconds left in the third period, Birmingham tied the game and sent it to overtime.

In overtime, Echeverri scored his second of the game to give the Mayhem the 4-3 overtime victory. Izmirlian picked up his second assist of the contest, while Vinny Muto picked his first of the game.

NOTABLE STATS

Greg Dodds started his first consecutive game and picked up his fourth victory. He played spectacularly, saving 44 of the 47 shots he faced in the game.

With an assist in the third period, Jake Trask extended his point-streak to seven games, which is a season-long for a Mayhem player. Over the seven games, Trask has six goals, six assists and 12 points.

Daniel Echeverri tallied his first multi-goal of the season, recording his fifth and sixth goals of the season. Chris Izmirlian recorded his first multi-point game in a Mayhem uniform, as he now has one goal and three assists in three games for Macon.

Birmingham Bulls: 5-12-3 (13 points)
