March 24, 2018 - SPHL (SPHL)
Macon Mayhem News Release

LAST GAME PLAYED:

These two teams met up for the second time of the season last night, and the Peoria Rivermen skated away with a 2-1 overtime victory. Rivermen forward Michael Carvalho led the team, scoring both goals in the victory. Macon's Jake Trask scored his 24th goal of the season - also his 60th point of the year.

SCOUTING THE RIVERMEN:

Peoria has been one of the best teams in the league all season, and that has not changed recently. Despite being held to just two goals last night, they rank first in the league in goals per game at 3.80. They also rank second in the SPHL in goals against per game at 2.84. Both facets of their special teams rank in the top third of the league, as they sport the second-best power play at 20.0% and the third-best penalty kill at 83.8%. They have been very hot over the past couple of months, as they have gone 12-3-3 in 18 games since the start of February. Over that stretch, they scored 70 goals (3.89 per game) and allowed just 51 (2.68 per game). Starting goaltender Tyler Parks has returned from loan to the ECHL, which gives the Rivermen a formidable goaltending tandem of him and Macon Pulde. In 14 games this season, Parks is 10-3-1 with a 2.64 GAA and a .918 SV%. Pulde played on Friday night, and sports a 4-0-1 record, 1.30 GAA and a .963 SV% in seven games this season.

FAMILIAR FOES:

After signing goaltender Peter Di Salvo on Thursday, the Mayhem have two players that have spent time with Peoria this season. Di Salvo went 9-3-1 in 15 games for Peoria with a 2.94 GAA and a.898 SV%. He has not seen action yet for the Mayhem, as he backed up Charlie Finn last night. The team also acquired Dakota Klecha in a trade in February, and he has three goals, seven assists and 10 points in 11 games for Macon. Mayhem leading scorer Jake Trask spent parts of two seasons in Peoria prior to being traded to Macon in their inaugural season.

Peoria has one former Mayhem player, as the team claimed defenseman Kristaps Nimanis off waivers from the Knoxville Ice Bears on March 16. Nimanis recorded an assist in the game last night, which was his first point for Peoria in his third game.

BACK IN ACTION:

The Mayhem complete their six-game road trip on Friday, March 30th against the Fayetteville Marksmen. They then return to Macon on Saturday, March 31st against Fayetteville for Pucks-N- Paws Night and Wiener Dog Races.
